Rufus's Story
A060944 Rufus; neutered male Standard Poodle mix; age 2 years; est. 73 lbs
Contact: Calaveras County Animal Services
(209)754-6509
Website: https://animal.calaverasgov.us/
Email: animal@calaverascounty.gov

At around two years old, Rufus is past the nutball puppy stage but still full of play and fun. This affable guy likes other dogs and is happy to meet new human friends, as well.

If you play ball with him, he will be your friend for life. This boy LOVES to play fetch. And he brings the ball back every time, straight to your lap! Well, really what he wants is for you to play tug-tug for just a minute before he relinquishes the ball for another round, but then he's ready to go again.

We've been asking him to sit before a toss. In response, he sort of... hovers? He's so excited to go after the ball, he wants to be 100% ready to launch! After being cooped up in his kennel all day and night, we can't really blame him for not wanting to sit down when he finally gets to come out to play.

Rufus pulls a bit on leash. He loves to walk with his nose to the ground, thoroughly investigating every scent. He doesn't pull terribly hard, but would benefit from some leash training.

He's not particularly treat-motivated by our little crunchy dog treats. He'll take them gently and then PHLUH spit them out, as if he wants to please you by taking your offering even though it tastes terrible. His snacking standards apparently require a higher value treat.

Rufus came in with his dog pal, Miles (also available for adoption), and would probably do well with another dog in the home (or hey, adopt both these buddies!).

Though we can't make guarantees, Rufus is very tidy and we'd consider him house trained.

We do not have information on his attitude toward cats at this time.

As always, a meet-and-greet is required if you have other dogs at home
