Ruckus's Story

Ruckus / M / 8Y / Boxer / 80lbs / Fostered in Toronto

Ruckus is a lovable, people-oriented guy who just wants to be by your side — and we mean that literally! Whether you're on the couch, in bed, or out for a walk, Ruckus wants to be right there with you, ideally touching you so he knows you're close. He's the kind of dog who will make you feel like the most important person in the world — expect plenty of cuddles and affectionate head-butts to prove it.

Ruckus absolutely loves his walks and being outside, but being an older guy, doesn’t have the stamina for long walks or hikes. Ruckus often barks at or pulls towards other dogs when leash walking, so his new family will need to be patient while working on his leash reactivity (treats help!). He thrives on a good routine and currently enjoys a couple of medium walks a day plus frequent potty breaks. He enjoys chew toys, the occasional play session, and sniffing in nature. He sleeps soundly through the night on a dog bed next to his foster parents’ bed, happiest when he knows his people are close.

Ruckus loves children and all people. He enjoys other dogs, but does best with dogs closer to his own size, as he loves to play and can get a little enthusiastic — and with his strength, smaller dogs may find him a bit much. He would also do best with calmer dogs. Cats, however, are not the right match for Ruckus, so a cat-free home is a must.

Ruckus has been doing great with alone time in foster — he's been left for up to four hours and is found happily napping on the sofa when his people return. His house manners are also great! He is a polite boy who will tell you when he needs to go if it’s outside of his usual potty break rotation.

Ruckus received some important veterinary care while in foster. He had a dental procedure that included removing 21 teeth and several small oral masses — he's all healed up and feeling much better for it! He does have bilateral cruciate disease in his hind legs. After a specialist consultation, surgery is not recommended for him, but he is managing well on daily meloxicam and is getting around comfortably.

Ruckus is a strong, devoted companion who is ready to be your shadow. If you're looking for a loyal dog who just wants to love you and share a good daily routine together, Ruckus might just be your guy. Could you be the forever home he's been waiting for?

If you are interested in adopting Ruckus, please complete an adoption application on our website
