Ruby's Story
AGE: 5 Years
WEIGHT: 45 lbs

Ruby was brought to the rescue by animal control after she was hit by a car. Colbert Veterinary Rescue Services, as well as animal control searched for an owner, but sadly, no one came forward. After the stray hold was finished, we immediately signed the papers for her to become a part of the CVRS family. After she was officially under our care, we got to work to get her the medical care she needed. We took radiographs and learned that she had a broken pelvis and a dislocated hip. We needed a specialist to do the surgery because it was so involved,; however, we were at a roadblock due to the cost of the surgery. Thankfully, we were able to raise enough money to have the surgery done. She had a steel plate put in the pelvis closing the gap between the breaks as well as an femoral head ostectomy. Ruby has recovered quickly from surgery and is now able to run around and have fun.

Ruby has an amazing personality and her smile lights up every room she is in. She gets very excited when she sees one of her friends and you can physically see it by the way her entire body wags as she is coming to greet you. Ruby seems to like to be outside and play with her human, but it may be a little longer until she has the endurance to play for a long time. More than anything, Ruby loves to lay on her bed and snuggle up next to you. If you move away from her, she will continue to inch her way towards you for her well deserved pets.

Ruby does seem to be a little warier of men than women. This may have been from past abuse or a former owner being a male. This being said, she would be best in a woman's household, but if a man is patient and spends time with her she does eventually warm up. Ruby has been tested with cats and dogs and does well with both. She does not seem to notice cats being present around her and after a couple of minutes, she warms up to dogs as well.

If you are interested in fostering/adopting Ruby, email us at info@colbertvetrescue.org. If you would like to continue to donate to her medical care, our Venmo is @Colbert-vetrescue.
