RUBEN*'s Story

Ruben is an energetic 6 month old gray pit bull, eager to take on the world. Ruben came to us as a stray, so we don’t know anything about his history. At the shelter is has proven himself to be a lovable and playful guy, with plenty of puppy energy and eagerness. He'll need lots of physical and mental stimulation, and lots of toys to keep his mouth occupied! He will need some help learning skills like potty training, walking on a leash, and redirecting his mouth onto toys, but luckily he seems to be very food motivated, and seems to do well with other dogs... those who'll tolerate a puppy's foolishness will be valuable helpers in teaching him good social skills and and to use a soft mouth! If you’re ready for a playful pup to jump into your life, come down and meet Ruben today! Ruben's adoption fee has been sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation's Leave No One Behind fund - a fund that draws adopter's eyes towards animals that have been waiting a little bit longer than average for the right adopters to come along and bring them home. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
