Roy's Story

A SWEET, PLAYFUL SENIOR FELLOW: Approx. 9 years old / Approx. 46 lbs.

Hi there, I'm Roy! I came to Mostly Mutts after finding myself at animal control—I don't remember how I ended up there, but I'm so grateful to be safe & well cared for now. When I arrived, it was clear that I had been neglected for years as I had thin fur & some skin issues, I needed a dental cleaning & had infected ears & sore eyes. I needed bloodwork, which I received thanks to a generous grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization. I'm feeling & looking much better & ready for my next chapter! I was selected to participate in the Mostly Mutts Prison Pups immersive training experience & learned a lot! I'm a sweet, hopeful guy who's excited about the future & dreaming of a loving home & family that will take wonderful care of me. Im in a wonderful foster home while I wait for my furever family to find me. Perhaps you?

OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I recently met dogs at Mostly Mutts & I was friendly with them. I can be a playful boy, but I'm also respectful of the older female chihuahua in my foster home who prefers to be left alone. If you have a nice doggie at home already, let's meet & see if we can be pals. / I'm respectful of the 4 cats in my foster home, ignoring 3 of the 4 & occasionally chasing the 4th, although my foster mom says most dogs do this with her lol. All cats are different, so I'm not sure how I would do with another kitty. / I like the calm 8-year-old boy in my foster home who knows how to read my cues when I need a little space, as well as not hold food at my level as I may grab it & nip some little fingers accidently, so kids around this age or older may be a good fit. Let's meet & best no very young kids that I may bump over, try to steal food from, or that may pull on my ears as they are sensitive or hug me which I may see as restraint.

PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I'm described as a friendly, super playful & smart guy who's sweet as can be & truly a very good boy. Ive been a calm, loving senior with great manners who listens well (& does best with gentle, kind words) & enjoys being close to the nice volunteers. I get spurts of energy that are so fun. I'm especially good for my medicated showers—I stay calm & sweet, even lifting my paws for massages & rinsing. A walk-in shower with a sprayer is just my style as I don't want to get in a tub, & I enjoy the gentle massage that comes with it. I really enjoy lots of attention & cuddling, but I still get pretty worked up when it is time for my eye drops & have nipped a few times over this. My foster mom says its best to give me a 5-minute no touch rule after that & then I am back to my sweet self. My foster mom says I'm a super sweet, fun dog who is young at heart & has great house manners. Doesn't that sound great to you? / Energy Level: 4-6.

SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I'm a proud graduate of the Mostly Mutts Prison Pups immersive training experience so I've mastered the 'sit', 'stay', 'down', 'come', 'drop it', 'leave it' & 'place' commands. I also use proper door etiquette & have good leash manners as well as accept nice strangers without jumping. Let's continue my training as there are more classes I can take through the free lifetime training that Mostly Mutts offers for all their rescue dogs. / My crate manners have been good, though I don't seem to really need a crate. / I'm doing well with my potty manners on the shelter schedule & did well in the off-site training program & my foster home too.

LIKES/DISLIKES: I love spending time with my people, playing with my toys (& Ill happily drop them for a treat!), & getting scratches—I can never get enough! I'm a big fan of tough toys since I tend to make quick work of the soft ones, but that's okay because the hard toys are my absolute favorites anyway! I also like walks, spending time in my fosters yard & treats (but I take them roughly so flat hand or on the floor, please). I'm sure well find lots of other things we will enjoy doing together in my new home. / I am skittish when anyone uses harsh words or corrections with me, so I want a kind & gentle family that's more about positive reinforcement. I'm not a fan of those pesky eye drops. I also don't like to be restrained during my vetting, so I wear a muzzle to help things go smoothly & my foster is helping me build confidence & comfort with it. Otherwise, like all dogs, I'm sure I wouldn't like it if I didn't get enough love, attention, exercise & training.

MEDICAL: I'm current on my annual vaccinations, microchipped & neutered. I also had a thorough dental cleaning, so my mouth is fresh & healthy again! I experience dry eyes from time to time, but I'm not a fan of receiving eyedrops. I arrived with chronic-untreated ear infections. Ive had several rounds of cleaning & medications, but this will likely be an ongoing condition due to past neglect. Ill need my family to stay proactive about my ear care, which will include some sedated treatments—just ask for more details. I'm currently receiving weekly medicated baths & taking fish oil supplements as my skin & coat continue to improve & those baths can easily be continued at home in a shower setting. I also take an allergy/itch medication called Zenrelia to help keep my skin comfortable.

I'm a wonderful fellow looking to soak up the good life with a kind & gentle family & to be well taken care of and loved. My adoption fee is $100.00, and I'm located in Kennesaw, Ga.
