Roxy's Story

My name is Roxy and Im looking for my forever home! Im 5 y.o. and weigh 30 lbs. I came to my foster home here in Des Plaines, IL, after my person died. That was so hard, but thanks to SIRA, Im happy again and my goofy side is on full display. I love attention from my foster family. Ill lay on my back and paddle my paws in the air for a belly rub. Im not shy I love saying hi to strangers. If I am not getting enough adoration, Ill boop you with my nose and grumble at you to PAY ATTENTION TO MEEE!!! Im patient and gentle with little kids. I sometimes get excited and jump up on my hind legs, so my foster mom says Ill do best with humans who are steady on their feet and not easily knocked over. Im a good girl in the house no potty accidents or destruction. I love to play with other dogs! Im friendly, but like most Shibas, I play rough, so my dog sibling should be able to handle my energy. I love to chase critters in the yard, so Im not a good match for cats or small pets. Ill chase anything that moves especially blowing leaves! Im obsessed. I enjoy leash walks, but foster mom says I could use some training since I pull. Like many Shibas, Im a door bolter, so my forever family should guard against escapes (baby gates help keep me from squirting out of open doors). Im healthy spayed and vaccinated. I have a skin allergy, which is managed well with medication and diet. My perfect forever family will have another playful and energetic dog to be my friend, no cats/small pets, and Id do best in a home with no shared walls, since Im vocal. If youre looking for a someone wholl be your shadow (especially if theres food around), then Im your girl! Foster mom says I'll make someone really happy. If you live in the Midwest and are interested, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt for more information and to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you and your home to make sure wed be a good match. Once approved theyll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!

Shiba Inu Rescue Association's Adoption Policy
So you've seen the beautiful, headstrong breed known as the Shiba Inu. You've researched the breed's characteristics and examined your living situation and decided you are ready to open your home to a Shiba Inu. Here is a brief summary of SIRA's adoption process. For more detailed information please visit our website: www.savingshibas.com/adopt. The best first step if you live in the midwest and are considering adopting from SIRA is to visit our webiste and read through the adoption policies and procedures. Then you can complete our online application to become approved as an adopter. Once you have completed your application, you will receive a confirmation receipt from Google Form. Depending on how many applications we're processing, it may take several days before you hear back. If you have questions about the status of your application, please email adoptsirashibas@gmail.com. The application forms help us learn more about you and your home environment so we can identify any potential challenges and match you with available dogs who will thrive in your home. Once your application is reviewed, our Applicant Approval Coordinator will get in touch with you about scheduling a home visit with a SIRA volunteer in your area. After your home visit is completed and approved you will be able to meet available foster dogs! For questions about the adoption process please send an email adoptsirashibas@gmail.com. SIRA depends on foster families as a critical part of our operation. Foster homes help a newly rescued dog adjust to living in a home environment. They work with SIRA to address any medical needs that the dog may have (including spay/neuter) and nurture and socialize the dog to prepare him/her for adoption. Foster families have the right to adopt their foster dog and participate in the process of approving adoption matches. If you're interested in learning more about becoming a foster home, visit www.savingshibas.com/foster or email fostersirashibas@gmail.com.
