Roxie's Story

I was found as a stray in the rural southwest region of Virginia. The shelter had limited space and I was not in a good place. The nice ladies at AGPR said they would take me and keep me healthy and safe until I found a forever home.

My name is Roxie and I'm a tough girl, like the Roxie in "Chicago". I'm kind of a diva and I like to protect my people when the Amazon or FedEx truck comes up the driveway! My barking warns them not to mess with US!

Looking at the photos posted her, I do need newer photos so you can see how pretty I am. These photos are from my "freedom ride" to AGPR. It was such fun...I had a pretty lady sitting with me in the back seat, showering me with love and telling me how much I was going to like AGPR. Her handsome husband was doing the driving and playing country music for me. I knew my life was changing for the better!

Hoping my forever home is looking for a "diva". I think I'd like to be the center of attention and not have to share the love with another pet...might you be the family for me???

All Great Pyrenees require a fenced-in yard (at least four foot high). If you have questions about the breed or our adoption policies and procedures, please go to our website at www.agprescue.org. There's plenty of good information about the breed on our website - Pyrs aren't a breed for everyone!

Our adoption application is online: http://agprescue.org/adoption-application/agpr-application-donations/ Please note that we are a small regional rescue organization. We will consider adopting to families within a four to five hour drive to Richmond, VA

Appalachian Great Pyrenees Rescue's Adoption Policy
We believe that any prospective owner of a Great Pyrenees should be educated about the breed and we stand behind all of our placements for the life of the dog. If you adopt a dog through AGPR, you can expect us to be there if you have any questions about the breed, if you need help, if you’re having problems, or for any reason at all. If for any reason you can’t keep your adopted dog, you must return it to the rescue. We expect all adoptive homes to an adequate physical fencing, to be able to care for a large breed of dog, to provide appropriate medical care, and to be committed to making the adoption of a rescue dog a success. Our adoption fees are $400 for adults and $450 for puppies (12 months and younger). All dogs have received medical care, are up to date on shots and are spayed/neutered and microchipped. Adoption fees go directly to our rescue fund to help pay for the health and vet treatment of previous and newly rescued Pyrs.
