Meet Rooster <br/><br/>Rooster is a handsome **2-year-old mini Lab/Schnauzer mix** weighing about **26 pounds**—a perfect medium-small size with a huge heart, warm brown eyes, and possibly the sweetest little underbite in the world.<br/><br/>When Rooster first meets new people or finds himself in a new environment, he can be a little nervous and uncertain. But give him some time to realize he's safe and his confidence soars—and then you get to meet the real Rooster.<br/><br/>And the real Rooster is **sweet, affectionate, playful, goofy and wonderfully rambunctious**, with what his foster describes as *“the goofy gait of a newborn giraffe.”* He loves to play, loves attention, and is discovering just how much fun life can be.<br/><br/>Rooster is **very food motivated**—and by very, we mean this boy is a serious fan of snacks! That makes him fun to train, although he does best with consistent boundaries around food. He's eager to please and responds well to redirection and positive reinforcement.<br/><br/>He did well living with his foster's older dog and was interested in their cats, although the cats weren't nearly as interested in him! He's still learning the finer points of expressing his excitement and can sometimes get a little mouthy during play, but he's easily redirected to a chew toy—or, even better, a good head massage.<br/><br/>Rooster has also made wonderful progress on leash. Once comfortable, he really enjoys his walks. Loud cars and trucks can still make him nervous, so keeping him close and helping him feel secure in new environments is important as he continues building confidence.<br/><br/>What we love most about Rooster is watching him blossom. We rescued him from the kill list at an overcrowded shelter, where he was frightened and unsure of everything. Once given safety, patience and love, he began wagging his tail, playing, trusting people and showing us the wonderful dog who had been hiding underneath all that fear.<br/><br/>Rooster has a **huge heart** and so much love to give. He's looking for a family that will give him a little patience, continue helping him learn, laugh at his goofy antics, and love him right back.<br/><br/>In return, you'll get a loyal, affectionate, ridiculously endearing best friend.<br/><br/>And you'll probably need snacks.
