Meet Roosevelt

These Presidential boys came into rescue when their elderly owner passed away. The family has been keeping them safe, but they have dogs of their own and no room for more.

With a birthday in April 2020, Roosevelt weighed 17 lb at his neuter on July 7, 2022. He should weigh about 20 lb.

Roosevelt is a happy young man and likes to hang out with the new doggy friends in his foster home. Introductions should be supervised - parallel walking for a distance until his excitement is reduced. He would like to rush up to new dogs, but that isn't polite. His new family should be aware of this and help reinforce good doggy greeting manners. He is learning about cats, and has shown an interest in playing chase-the-cat. He doesn't seem to want to hurt them, just enjoys the excitement of running after them.

Roosevelt is comfy in a 36" crate. He wants to be with his people, so will emit sharp barks periodically to express his displeasure at sleeping in the kitchen. He doesn't like being in a crate when the household is up and active, but he's working on his house-training. Currently he's given a potty break (walk out to a "special spot" in the yard & given a chance to "Go potty." He's crated with a treat if he doesn't go. If he does potty, he's allowed to play for about 15 minutes before being crated with a treat to wait for his next potty break. His foster family is working on this learned behavior and he's already showing improvement. Once adopted, hourly walks help him remember to wait.

Roosevelt is leash-savvy and only pulls to get to something exciting. He rides well in a car and enjoys lounging on the seat. He doesn't have to be in the driver's lap :)

Roosevelt is tolerant during brushing sessions with his foster mom. Someone clipped his top coat along his back, perhaps to remove mats, so that part of his coat isn't as luxurious as the shoulders forward area. Right now brushing is to help him shed his winter coat. If kept brushed, he shouldn't shed too much. Currently he doesn't shed at all, but the winter coat he's blowing out will become mats if not attended to regularly. A history with a groomer will be required of his qualified family.

Roosevelt's adoption fee is $600 firm. He'll be neutered prior to adoption.

**********

April 2020: We are not holding public adoption events until further notice. Qualified families are being invited to appointments to meet specific dogs. There are currently no opportunities to view multiple dogs and adoption events aren't being held at Tractor Supply in Lenoir.

Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.

If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.

A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. Requirement is a minimum three year vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. We suggest first time pet owners without a vet history look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience. Other rescues or your local government-run animal control agency may have different adoption requirements.

Adoption fee covers two vaccinations plus spay / neuter if using our local low-cost spay/neuter clinic (overnight stay required) and surgery occurs as agreed upon in the adoption contract. Convenience fee equal to refundable spay/neuter deposit may be required if, using our veterinarian or same-day surgery, service is scheduled through our organization. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.

We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is www.petpartnersrescue.org.
