Roo's Story

Meet Roo, an approximately 1.5 year old mixed-breed, who is just the sweetest girl ever! She absolutely loves people and gives the best hugs and kisses. If you are looking for a friend who will be by your side in every moment and comfort you when you need it most, this is the dog for you!

Roo came to RCHS from a high-kill shelter where she was on the euthanasia list because she had heartworm disease. Heartworm disease is a very common, serious and potentially fatal infectious disease caused by foot-long worms (heartworms) that live in the heart, and associated blood vessels. The infection can lead to severe lung disease, heart failure and damage to other organs. Treatment takes months, but this sweet girl deserved to live. And after 4 months of treatment and restricted exercise, on Thursday April 16th, Roo tested negative for the infection. YAY for Roo!!!

Roo is kennel trained (but would much rather be with you) and has never had an accident in the house. She loves to play, be outside, and go for car rides, but she also loves to just hang out and cuddle on the couch. This dog is fearless and loves odd things like the vacuum.

She has mild allergies, but these are currently well managed with baths and some special food. Roo hasn't met any other animals or small children yet, but now that she is well we’ll be working on assessing how she does. Her foster mom says “This is a dog who will love you through thick and thin and is a really good emotional support pup!”

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our application here: http://www.rchsks.org/our-animals/adopt-a-pet/adopting-a-dog. By filling out the application you are not committing yourself to adopting; it's a screening process that must be completed before you meet the dog. Please do this BEFORE calling. Our voicemail is only checked periodically and you can reach us much faster via dog-coordinators@rchsks.org. Thank you!
