So he's just now learning how to be a real dog. He needs a home outside of the city ideally and with another dog. He must go to a home with another dog, he finds a lot of comfort in having a dog friend. His adopters need to be patient people as he will take a while to get used to his new home and people. He's come a long way. And we're very proud of him." <br/><br/>His Foster Mom Says: "Romeo is a lover but plays hard to get. He is lovely natured but a timid dog who was terrified at first. He's come leaps and bounds but is still hesitant of crowds and loud noises. Gaining Romeo's trust and seeing him come out of his shell has been the most rewarding experience. He hasn't recognized "Romeo" but "Splodge" works and with his beautiful blue eyes, adorable floppy ears, enthusiastic waggly snub tail, and snaggle toothed smile, his gorgeous soft coat is well ... splodgy. Some of the most adorable things about Romeo are that he's smart, polite, easy-going and willing to learn. A true gentleman. He loves a tummy scratch and gets all prepared for it. On waking up in the morning, he is the most playfull - he adorably scrubs his face and ears with his long paws. He's a leggy boy and is very agile (he has the longest stretches). Although most of the time, he is happy to just rest and be near you. After some tummy upsets, he's been doing really well on an easy to digest diet (Hills Science Biome). We can't wait to see him find his forever home."<br/><br/>Level of dog ownership experience needed:<br/>FLEXIBLE – We predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale with regard to exercise and mental stimulation requirements, but seniors tend to need a lot of help and understanding when it comes to lifestyle and veterinary issues. Seniors usually need quiet, calm environments and routines and do not do well with a lot of bustle, change, and rambunctious movement (kids and young playful dogs, for instance). This dog's adopter will need to be prepared for senior health challenges, which means frequent vet visits and very expensive veterinary bills. (An annual senior blood panel alone costs around $500 in NYC.) Senior care can also take an emotional toll on their humans. Adopting a mature pup is a wonderful thing to do, but it can also be difficult. <br/><br/>Energy Level:<br/>LOWER – Pretty chill indoors and won't demand endless amounts of stimulation and exercise but still needs a few short walks a day (10-30 min each) for potty breaks and to stretch their legs<br/><br/>Tolerance to City:<br/>Adjusting to the City. Romeo is scared of crowds and sharp/loud noises, would do best out of the city. <br/><br/>Potty Trained:<br/>Yes.<br/><br/>Comfort Level with Strangers:<br/>Wallflower, takeas a long time to warm up to new people. <br/><br/>Behavior with Children:<br/>Not a match with a home with kids. He's very gently but easily spooked. Older respectful children are okay but no young children. <br/><br/>Social Behavior with other Dogs: <br/>Still working on it, especially bigger dogs. Romeo needs space to greet dogs but he was really great with my small dog that gave him lots of space.<br/><br/>Mouthy Behavior:<br/>Is over it. He only has 5 teeth!<br/><br/>Respectful Behavior with Other Animals:<br/>Okay to live with a cat. <br/><br/>Separation Anxiety:<br/>Does okay home alone <br/><br/>Leash Manners: <br/>Getting the hang of it. When stressed, Romeo will pull on his lead and try to get away from the situation, especially within crowds.<br/><br/>Cuddle Bug Levels:<br/>Medium. Romeo likes to stay close to but not ON you. He loves belly rubs and makes it clear when he's ready for them (he has a routine). He's ok being picked up.<br/><br/>Jumping on People to Say Hello:<br/>Calm - doesn't do this <br/><br/>Crate Training:<br/>Not at all in his foster home, however, Romeo likes a 'safe' space which has been various dog beds. O, and he sleeps on the human's bed at the base.<br/><br/>Medical status:<br/>Healthy for their age as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. Adopters will need to be ready for senior care – at a minimum, that will be annual checkups including senior bloodwork and a dental post adoption (most senior rescues need one).<br/><br/>How did this dog end up with Social Tees?<br/>Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives. <br/><br/>PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old).
