Rocky (F26-24)'s Story

**My adoption fee has been generously sponsored!**

Meet Rocky!

At 9 years old, Rocky has earned his retirement. This gentle giant is ready to trade uncertainty for comfort and spend his golden years exactly as they should be-with a soft bed, a family to love, and the security of finally being home. At 106 pounds, Rocky is all Rottweiler on the outside, but underneath is a calm, affectionate soul who simply wants to be close to his people.

Rocky loves spending time outdoors, whether he's soaking up the sunshine or taking a leisurely stroll. He walks beautifully on a leash and is happiest simply being near his people. Whether you're relaxing at home or enjoying a quiet afternoon together, Rocky is content just sharing your company.

Treats are one of the quickest ways to Rocky's heart. He's very food motivated, making him easy to engage with and eager to learn while continuing to build trust with his family.

Rocky is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm disease and is looking for a family willing to support him through the remainder of his recovery. He will need to return to NMDR for scheduled treatments, monitoring, and a dental procedure. During this time, he must remain on restricted activity and follow his treatment plan carefully to give him the best chance at a full recovery.

Rocky has done well with other dogs during introductions and interactions at the shelter. However, he has shown that he enjoys having his people to himself during close, one-on-one time and may guard a lap or favorite person from another dog. For this reason, any potential canine housemates should be a thoughtful match, with slow introductions and appropriate management to help everyone succeed.

If you're looking for a loyal companion who will happily trade adventures for quiet moments by your side, Rocky may be the perfect addition to your family. Give this deserving senior the retirement he has earned, filled with love, comfort, and the simple joy of belonging. An in-person meet and greet is required to ensure the right fit for everyone.
------
Many NMDR dogs have had limited prior socialization and may need time, patience, and support as they adjust to home life. Skills such as house training, leash walking, and handling may require continued practice. Progress will vary by individual dog. Homes with older children are often a good fit, depending on temperament. To learn more about NMDR and our adoption process, please visit our website.

National Mill Dog Rescue's Adoption Policy
At NMDR, we use a welcoming, conversation-based adoption process! We look at every applicant as a partner, offering honest education about our dogs' needs so you can make the best choice for your lifestyle. We generally do not deny adoptions based solely on yard size, housing type, adopter age, or having other pets. Because many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeding facilities, we maintain a few firm safety and mission-aligned policies: Spay/Neuter Requirement: To help end the cycle of irresponsible breeding, all resident dogs in your home must be spayed or neutered. Homes with Children: Many of our dogs had limited socialization before rescue. Older kids are often a great match! Homes with younger children are considered individually based on the dog’s needs and the adopter’s experience with home management. Companions Only: Our dogs are adopted strictly as indoor family companions. Out-of-State Adopters: You are welcome to apply, but you must travel directly to the specific shelter housing the dog (in CO or MO) to complete the adoption. We do not ship or transport dogs. A Supportive Safety Net: Life is unpredictable, and sometimes a match isn't perfect. We discuss long-term safety nets with all adopters, and if a placement doesn't work out, we welcome our dogs back with zero judgment. Fees: Adoption fees vary by age and directly offset the extensive veterinary care, dental work, and rehabilitation each dog receives before adoption. Ready to meet your new best friend?
