Meet Robyn

Robyn
7yr old Beagle/Lab mix

Is your home “dog-less”? Are you hoping to skip puppyhood, house training, chewing, and lots of energy training? Are you an experienced dog owner able to understand dog body language cues? Do you enjoy brisk walks and quiet time indoors? Are you looking for an independent and chill companion? Do you really want to rescue a dog in need? Then Robyn is your gal!

Robyn is suspected to be a 7 year old beagle mix. She is healthy, spayed, and up to date on vet care. Robyn has been a wonderful foster guest that has blossomed with patience and respect. Robyn and her foster home are working with a trainer to best meet and understand her needs, and continued training will be mandatory with any potential adopters.

The best points about Robyn:
• She is independent and can self amuse
• Once she understands the rhythm of the household, she displays no separation anxiety and can be left for 5 hours
• She walks/jogs without pulling and easily does 5km a day (to keep her girlish figure)
• She is non-reactive to other dogs on walks, unless they are reactive then needs assurance and told to “look” and “walk on”
• She is nonreactive greeting people while on walks
• She is a perfect companion on any length of road trip
• She will sit quietly for weekly nail trims
• Vet/groomer visits cause no anxiety
• She is house trained and non destructive
• She is comical when you come home wiggling to greet you
• She plays an intense tug-of-war

Robyn’s work in progress behaviour:
• She barks with enthusiasm when people come to the door, or on the property
• She “lunges” at visitors inside the home as is her assertive way of greeting then backs away to her “place”. The foster has used calming techniques to manage this behaviour, but…
• Though she has never bitten in her foster home, for safety reasons the foster also employs a number of “work arounds”

Robyn requires a long decompression period (4-6 months) with very limited visitors to relax and accustom herself to a new home. She is currently living with a resident alpha dog and it took a month before they both understood each other and develop a civil co-existence.

What type of home will Robyn thrive in?
A quiet and calm environment with dog savvy owners who understand and respect her limits. It will be imperative that adopters are willing to give her lots of time to adjust, continue positive training and use work arounds such as her muzzle, her own room, and/or leash when visitors come in to the home.

Fenced Yard? Not necessary, but she does need adequate exercise to maintain her physical and mental health and wellbeing.
Cats? To our knowledge has not previously lived with cats, but does show a low prey drive.
Kids? No
Dogs? Maybe. Would have to be a calm, respectful, and independent dog.

Robyn is not a perfect “unicorn” dog, she comes with issues from her past. But for a well matched home she is a joy, and deserves a happier second half of her life.

Robyn has been a wonderful foster guest that has blossomed with gentle training and routine to build her trust.
Robyn has been vaccinated, spayed, microchipped, heartworm tested, amd treated with Nexfard Spectra.
