RJ's Story

** This is an Out Of Town listing. We transport to the city on this listing. Please apply at www.bit.ly/mu-adopt ** This stop arrives late on a Friday evening at Buc-ee's in Kodak.

Meet RJ!

RJ is a 2 year old chiweenie mix who has had a rough hand dealt to him. He was plucked from the only home he had ever known and suddenly found himself in rescue, surrounded by unfamiliar people, places, and routines. For a timid little dog, that is a lot to process.

His foster mom has been patient and consistent, and little by little, she has earned his trust. RJ is still very much a work in progress, but we are seeing those small steps forward—and they mean everything.

RJ will need a patient, understanding home that will give him the time he needs to come out of his shell. He isn't going to be the dog who runs up to greet you on day one. His trust will have to be earned, and his affection will come slowly. But for the right person, watching him begin to feel safe and learning that he can trust again will be incredibly rewarding.

Around other dogs, RJ has a bit of "little dog syndrome". So it would require patience to help him integrate with other pups. He chases the foster's cat but backs down when confronted with a hiss and a swat.

Because of his timid nature, RJ needs a home without children. He weighs around 14 pounds and is doing well with potty training. He also uses pee pads, so he'll just need some patience and consistency as he learns the routine in his new home.

RJ isn't looking for someone who wants the easiest dog or an instant best friend. He's looking for someone who roots for the underdogs. Someone who understands that sometimes the most rewarding relationships are the ones that take time. Someone who will celebrate the tiny victories—the first tail wag, the first time he seeks out affection, the first time he realizes he's safe.

RJ has already been through enough. Now he needs someone willing to give him the time, love, patience, and care he needs to become the dog he's meant to be.

If you think you have what it takes to give this sweet, scared boy the patient forever home he deserves, please apply to adopt RJ at the link below.

______

HOW TO APPLY TO ADOPT:

Start by filling out our online application at www.bit.ly/mu-adopt

Once submitted, we will reach out to approved applicants by phone. We may also suggest other amazing dogs in our care who could be a great fit for your home.

**NOTE: Completed applications take priority over Petfinder inquiries or emails.

LOCATION & TRANSPORT:

This dog is currently in South Mississippi. Local and out-of-town adopters are welcome. For out of town adopters, we offer virtual meet-and-greets and can arrange transport to many states in the Northeast. (The $325 adoption fee includes transport to the city on this listing. Our transports run every 2-3 weeks to that location.) We cannot adopt to Rhode Island due to import restrictions.

VETTING:

All of our dogs are cleared by a licensed veterinarian for transport and arrive to their adopters spayed/neutered with age-appropriate vaccines completed and are microchipped. NOTE: We cannot guarantee breed mix. It is estimated based on physical characteristics and any known history.

To see more of the fur babies we rescue and love, follow us on Facebook: Misfits & Underdogs (www.facebook.com/misfitsunderdogs)
