River is about 3 years old as of November 2021 and about 40 pounds. (She needs to lose some weight) Her owner in Denver, Iowa, could not keep her any longer. She has many urinary accidents around the house. After taking her to their vet, they found out she has many kidney stones.

Our vet had her started now on prescription food to help dissolve those stones. We will have her re-checked in 8 weeks and 16 weeks to see if it is working. (She will need another X-ray to find out). If it is working, we will continue her on that special food. If it is not working, River will need to have surgery to remove the stones.

River is a sweetheart, does well with children, cats, and other dogs. River is a very friendly.

River came to us as a surrender due her owner unable to care for her health concerns. River was diagnosed with bladder stones which will require special food and diet to treat the issue and help prevent future issues. She will need to be on this special food for the rest of her life. The 25lbs bag of this food is $95, but this size bag will last at least a month with her size.

Apart from her medical needs, River is a wonderful dog. She is great with other dogs and cats, and is very sweet and affectionate. River is currently living in a foster home with 2 other dogs , and 5 cats, and everyone gets along great.

River spends most of her time on the couch and likes to lay with us whenever possible, but in the evenings she does play tug with a rope, and plays well with our other dogs, and shares toys nicely.

River is potty trained, but we assume due to her bladder issues, she tends to need to go out side to pee at least once over night, but River is crate trained and is able to hold it for up to 8 hours while we are at work.

The only concern at the foster home, is that River wants to sleep with the foster parents at night, but the dogs are not allowed in the bedroom at night since the other dogs are bed hogs. River doesn’t want to accept sleeping on the couch with the other dogs. After a couple of hours at night she starts to bark for attention, however if one of us sleeps on the couch with her, she is fine all night. But if you are someone that wants a dog to sleep with you, she will be perfect!

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $350 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
