RITA's Story
RITA
Hound Mix, Female, 65 lbs
Approximately 2 years old
Rescued Dec 2024

Rescue Story
She was born in a homeless camp and was later abandoned by herself around six months old on the streets of Shawnee, OK. A local businessman fed and cared her for several months, then sought help for her during her pregnancy. He named her Rita.

Rita gave birth to a beautiful litter of 11 while in our care just three days after her rescue, The next two winter months were spent mothering her big litter in warmth and safety. She was fed well, loved on, walked, and she was a wonderful, first time (and only time) mom. The nickname Mama is often still used when talking to her. It was a joy to care for Rita, and her babies were some of the prettiest we’d seen!!

This girl had always lived outside, primarily on her own, fending for herself. Rita is still getting used to being around a lot of activity and different people coming and going. She is so sweet yet requires some gentle coaxing and patience. We know this will diminish after she is with her own forever family. She will gain confidence quickly, and blossom into the dog she was always meant to be! So much to offer a family!

Notable Traits
-- Super sweet dog who, after she gets to know you, is very friendly
and affectionate, Rita needs time as she is weary at first.
-- Curious, Loyal, Protective, Smart, and loves playing with other dogs!
-- A dignified yet silly wiggle-butt who's gentle as can be.
-- Demonstrates Independence but wants to be with people & other pets.
-- Rita does best with consistent routines which helps her build trust and confidence.
-- When staying with a foster for several days she quickly learned to love sleeping in bed with the people!
-- Ready for basic training 101 and is eager to learn. And like all dogs, Rita
responds well when positive reinforcement is used.
-- Walks well on a leash, of course after the initial excitement wears off!
-- Uses a doggie door, house trained, rides well in a car, good at vet visits.

CONTACT US!
Our preference is that you fill out an adoption application first to get the
process rolling: www.SPARpets.org/adoptionapplication/
Text or Call Kim at 630-803-9278

______________________________
THE APPLICATION PROCESS:
Adoption Fee is $275
We require the following to help ensure the best forever match between the dogs & adopters.

1. Complete & submit the adoption application. https://sparpets.org/adoptionapplication/
2. A SPAR Rep reviews the application.
3. A phone interview with the applicant(s) is scheduled & conducted by a SPAR Rep.
4. SPAR adoption policies, expectations, & guarantees are explained.
5. A meet & greet with the SPAR dog & the all of the applicant’s family members that live in the home.
6. Compatibility assessment completed to ensure the applicant's family pets & the SPAR dog get along.
7. Home visit conducted prior to every adoption.
8. A sleepover trial period is often helpful. The SPAR dog stays with the family for a short, predetermined time period to better evaluate the pairing.
9.
