Riley 's Story

Meet Riley, an 8-year-old Shih Tzu mix with a big heart and an even bigger love for snuggles. Riley first came to us as a boarding dog, but due to unforeseen circumstances, his owner, who clearly cared for him deeply, made the difficult decision to surrender him so he could receive the care he needs and deserves.

Riley is a sweet, affectionate companion who truly enjoys life’s simple pleasures. Whether he’s sunbathing, lounging around the house, or staying close to his favorite people, he’s happiest when he’s by your side. Like many dogs with personality, Riley has a bit of a stubborn streak, but it only adds to his charm.

Riley can be a little nervous when meeting new people and will need slow, gentle introductions to help him feel safe. If he becomes overwhelmed or unsure, he may go into “protection mode,” but with patience and understanding, he settles in and builds trust. Once he knows you, his loving personality really shines.

He also tends to be protective of his food and toys. Riley is not an aggressive dog, but he does like to guard what’s his. With structure, consistency, and time to adjust to new surroundings and people, he can learn to feel more secure and relaxed.

Riley does well with other dogs and has shown curiosity about cats, though he hasn’t yet had direct interaction without a barrier. With proper introductions, he may do well in a home with feline friends.

Riley would likely make a wonderful companion in a patient, understanding home that will give him the time he needs to adjust. He thrives on attention, loves being around his people, and has so much affection to give.

Despite his small size, Riley’s heart is huge. He’s ready to find a loving home where he can feel safe, relaxed, and truly cherished.
