Ricotta's Story

Ricotta was found as a stray in New York City and brought to the NYC Animal Care Centers, the NYC Municipal Shelter.

He was a little guy amongst so many dogs.

We were so fortunate we were able to save him and place him in a great foster home with other little Chi's. He is now ready to embark on finding his forever home.

Ricottas STATS:
AGE: approximately 4 years old
WEIGHT: 8 lbs
NEUTERED: YES
VACCINATED: YES
MICROCHIPPED: YES
Other dogs:
Great with other dogs, in fact he thrives with them!
Kids:
Great with respectful kids, for the experienced chihuahua family.
Strangers? haven’t had an issue
Unsure on cats
Walks very, very well on a leash, alone and in a pack. Hooking and unhooks with no problem.
Loves and craves his crate, will willingly go in there and relax with door open. Was growling when he arrived with shutting the door at night. Giving treats when shutting door is helping immensely.
Housetrained, yes, but has marked a few times, assuming due to neuter only being 2 weeks ago. He will need time and more work with this.

Preferred forever home for your foster?
Male in home- very responsive and bonds very quickly with a male.
Somewhere where he will have outdoor time, he loves just laying outside and taking it all in. Loves walks. Will seek out attention and wants to just be next to you.

Very eager to please and learn- someone who will continue to work with him. This little guy has it all

This guy likes a quiet home and prefers not too much activity of people coming and going.

Interesting quirks/behaviors:
Can growl when crate door is opened or shut - positive reinforcement with treats are helping to break this
Will play nip when getting excited with humans
Can bark on leash when walking if another dog or person approaches. He’s overcome this with treats and clicks to where it’s almost non existent. Someone will need to continue with this.
Has an acorn and leaf fetish, will eat them if not supervised outdoors

Ricotta is the most loving and happy little fella out there. He is very treat motivated and eager to please, very fast learner. He got the hang of foster homes routine within 3 days.

His love language is affection, you cannot pet, rub, cuddle this guy enough. He is happy lazing around all day, after he’s had a walk or two. Would do well in a home with other dogs, he enjoys playing and bonding with them.
He also loves a good chew bone.
