Rhea's Story

*****Please note, once you complete the initial screening, you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks, and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time. We are a volunteer-run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision-making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.***********

Rhea (Pronounced "Ray-a") is currently being fostered in Austin, Texas, and can be transported out of state once an approved adopter is lined up!

Meet Rhea, a 4.5-year-old, 70lb German Shepherd/Great Dane mix. She is Embark tested, so her breed is known and the health test portion came back with no genetic diseases! Before coming into foster care, Rhea was a volunteer favorite at BARC and because of her friendly and easygoing personality with other dogs, she was even used for temperament testing when new dogs arrived at the shelter. Rhea truly loves everyone she meets and is happiest when she gets to be around people and other dogs.

Rhea is a smart, silly girl who is VERY affectionate and loves being the center of attention! She is comfortable with dogs of all sizes and currently lives with both a 20lb and 50lb dog. She is friendly with smaller dogs, but when she does play, she can be a little rough, so she would do best with a dog 40lb+. Rhea has a moderate energy level and enjoys a good walk, exploring, playing with her toys, or spending time with her dog friends, but she also knows how to settle down and relax when it's time to hang out at home. More than anything, she loves being with her people and will happily keep you company wherever you are. Rhea is house-trained, crate-trained, and comfortable sleeping in her crate, on a dog bed, or at the foot of your bed. She has been around children with no issues; We think she would do well with respectful, dog-savvy children. We don't know how she would do living with cats, but she has shown interest in chasing cats she has seen on walks, so a cat-free home may be the safest fit.

Rhea could thrive in many different types of homes, but she would be happiest with a family that truly wants her to be part of their everyday life. She is a bit of a Velcro dog and loves being close to her people, whether that means joining you on outings, relaxing at home, or simply following you from room to room. Another friendly dog or two would be wonderful for her, but she does not need a canine companion to be happy. If she is your only dog, regular playdates or opportunities to spend time with other friendly dogs would be a great way for her to get some social time. Rhea is treat-motivated and eager to please, and she already knows her name, “come,” “sit,” “lay down,” and “stay.” She would love having someone who enjoys continuing her training and teaching her new things.

If you are interested in adding this girl into your family, please fill out the adoption application below!

https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DDAR/Dog
