Reno's Story

This dog was brought into PAHS on 2/26/25 by 2 young guys. They claimed to have found the dog on the side of the highway just outside of Kingman Ks. I explained that our shelter is at capacity and that since they found the pup in Kingman Co, to call kingman and let them know they found a dog on the highway and to take the dog there. The guys left. The next morning I got a call from Cody Folkers telling me he had picked up a dog out in the country close to Sawyer Ks. He brought the dog by my house for me to look at him because he had numerous wounds from being attacked by something. (Cody is the husband of PAHS shelter director, Jackie) When I saw the pup I immediately recognized him as being the dog that the 2 young guys had brought to the shelter the previous day. I had Cody take the dog to Hi Plains vet to have wounds looked at. I met Cody at Hi Plains to authorize medical treatment of the pup. Wounds were clipped and cleaned and dog was neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. He then enter the shelter on 2/28/25. Dr. Spitzer prescribed carprofen for pain-25mg-1/2 tablet PO BID for 3 days. Also Cephalexin 250mg 1 capsule PO BID for 10 days. All dogs and cats are altered before leaving the shelter per Kansas State Law. All dogs and cats are tested and vaccinated with age appropriate test and vaccines. All dogs are microchipped, we offer this for cat adopters as well.

You can come fill out applications at the shelter, we are going to try to get them online. With all dogs we require meet and greets with everyone in the home including other pups.

Happy Adopting!
