Remy's Story

📌 Important Information
• All of our dogs are currently in foster homes in Mexico 🇲🇽. They are listed as being in Sherwood, Oregon because that is where our rescue is officially based for adoption purposes.
• To keep our dogs safe and reduce unnecessary stress, we only fly dogs to Oregon once we have an approved adopter. ✈️ After approval, we coordinate the flight directly to Portland (PDX), with your new family member typically arriving within 2–4 weeks.

💛 About The Meximutt Project (A Born Again Pit Bull Rescue initiative)
Over 18 million dogs live on Mexico’s streets. Yes, but please keep in mind that they must be taught to respect the dog’s space, belongings, and food.
• HOUSEBROKEN? Not 100% yet. As a dog rescued off the street and currently living outdoors or in foster homes with tile surfaces, they'll need some time to be 100% housebroken. Most of our dogs adapt to a potty routine within 1-2 weeks with consistent training.

Remy was found wandering the streets—thin, disoriented, covered in fleas and ticks. No one knows how long he'd been out there or what his story was before. He was just another dog trying to survive, alone and afraid.

When he was rescued, Remy was deeply distrustful. He'd been let down before, and he wasn't about to make that mistake again. But with consistent care, good food, and patience, he started to relax. To believe that maybe this time, things would be different.

Now? Remy is a completely different dog. He's filled out to a healthy weight, his scruffy Schnauzer coat is clean and well-maintained, and that wariness has been replaced by confidence. He's friendly, social, and surprisingly mellow for his breed.

Remy is independent in the best way. He doesn't need constant attention or reassurance. He's perfectly content entertaining himself, napping in a sunny spot, or just existing peacefully in the same room as you. He's not needy. Not clingy. Just... steady. Calm. Easy.

But that doesn't mean he's aloof. Remy loves playing with other dogs—wrestling, chasing, that friendly rough-and-tumble play that dogs do when they genuinely enjoy each other's company. He's social without being over-the-top about it.
"He's so tranquil," his foster says. "Very independent, but he still loves being around people and other dogs. He's just the best of both worlds."

The one thing Remy is NOT good with? Cats. He'll chase them playfully, but it's not a game cats appreciate. He needs a cat-free home where he doesn't have to navigate that relationship.

What makes Remy special is how low-maintenance he is. He's not a typical high-energy, vocal, demanding Schnauzer. He's alert and smart, yes, but he's also relaxed and easygoing. He'd do well in almost any living situation—apartment or house, active family or quieter home. He just needs daily interaction, some playtime with other dogs if possible, and a family who appreciates a dog that doesn't require constant management.

After wandering lost and alone, after being covered in parasites and half-starved—Remy is just grateful for the calm life he's finally found. All he's missing is his forever home, one where he's embraced for exactly who he is: calm, independent, friendly, and remarkably uncomplicated.

Are you ready for a mellow companion who'll fit seamlessly into your life, who'll be there when you want company but won't demand it when you're busy?

*************************

📝 Ready to apply?
