Remi's Story

Meet Remi a sweet, smart girl looking for her forever family. At just 1 year old, Remi has already overcome more than any dog should. During the first year of her life, she endured abuse by her owner and was also attacked by another dog, leaving her with lasting emotional scars. Despite that difficult beginning, she has made incredible progress and continues to blossom with patience, consistency, and love. She is an incredibly sweet, affectionate, and adoring companion who would happily spend every evening curled up beside her favorite person. Once she trusts you, her loyalty and love are unwavering. Remi is a highly intelligent mix—approximately 50% Great Dane and 30% Catahoula Leopard Dog—and she thrives when both her mind and body are engaged. Puzzle toys, training sessions, and opportunities to run and stretch her long legs help bring out her very best. She is happiest when she has a job to do and people who enjoy interacting with her. She is healthy, happy, and has made tremendous strides in learning to trust people. She has become much less reactive toward humans and continues to gain confidence every day. She knows sit and stay, is improving with come, and is mostly leash-trained. Like many young dogs, she can lose focus on walks when another dog or small animal catches her attention, so she benefits from a confident handler who can redirect her and continue reinforcing positive leash manners. Because of her past experiences, she is still reactive toward other dogs and has a strong prey drive, especially when it comes to birds and other small animals. She will do best with an adopter who understands that training is an ongoing journey and is committed to helping her continue building confidence and positive associations. With a very slow, carefully managed introduction, she has the potential to live successfully with another dog. A securely fenced yard is important for her so she can safely enjoy her energetic "zoomies" and burn off energy. She is accustomed to free-roaming in the home and does well with that freedom, although she still has a mischievous streak—if shoes are left out, they will become her newest chew toy! The ideal home for Remi is one with patient, dedicated people who understand that healing from trauma takes time. In return, they'll gain an incredibly loving, intelligent, and devoted companion whose best chapters are still ahead of her. If you're looking for a dog who will reward your patience with endless affection, unwavering loyalty, and a lifetime of love, Remi may be the perfect addition to your family.

Big Dogs Huge Paws, inc's Adoption Policy
Many of the gentle giants that come into our rescue have been neglected or abused. Others have simply been abandoned by their owners due to a divorce, a new baby, moving, or natural disaster. We are often told that they got “too big” or “too expensive” and many of the dogs below come to us with very little training. Despite their past, rescue dogs are incredibly forgiving and very eager to please. They have so much to give and are all very special. We are looking for forever homes and permanent families who will love their new addition unconditionally and give them the love and support they need and deserve for the rest of their lives. Adoption Requirements and Guidelines a. Applicants must have never been convicted of any animal abuse laws. b.
