REIGN's Story

Meet Reign!
Brilliant, Beautiful & Looking for Her Person

Those blue eyes may stop you in your tracks, but Reign's brain might be her most impressive feature.

Reign is a striking young Catahoula/Malinois mix who is incredibly intelligent, athletic, affectionate with the people she trusts, and eager to learn. She's the kind of dog who could absolutely flourish with someone who enjoys training and wants a true canine partner.

She's also not a beginner dog, and we're going to be completely upfront about that.

THE BASICS:
Female
Approximately 45 lbs.
Spayed
House trained
Crate trained
Sleeps through the night
Can be left alone safely when crated
Good in the car
Knows Sit, Down & Off
Highly food motivated
Loves fetch
Loves water
Good with dogs
Good with cats
Has lived successfully in a home

THE REIGN HER PEOPLE KNOW:
Underneath all that athleticism is a very sweet girl.

Her foster describes Reign as a teenager who is wildly happy, ready to GO, and then ready for a hard nap. She isn't a constant Velcro dog, but once you're one of her people, there are plenty of cuddles and kisses.

She's playful and loves food-dispensing toys, rubber toys and plushies, although plushies should probably know they're living on borrowed time. Reign is an enthusiastic chewer and will occasionally investigate other small items with her teeth, so good puppy-proofing and appropriate chew options are important.

She is also extremely high energy. Reign needs far more than a quick walk around the block. She needs physical activity, mental enrichment, training and a person who enjoys working with a smart, driven dog.

NOW FOR THE IMPORTANT PART:
Reign's Catahoula/Malinois heritage comes with some serious brainpower, drive and natural guarding instincts.

She is currently wary of unfamiliar people and can display intimidating behavior when she feels uncertain. With an experienced handler and an appropriate introduction, she can settle within several minutes—but this is something her adopter must be prepared to continue working on.

Reign is also an emotionally sensitive dog.

Harsh training methods are not appropriate for her. She needs calm, confident, reward-based handling from someone who understands that trust and communication will get much farther with her than force or intimidation.

Her foster/trainer feels strongly that yelling or aversive handling could cause her fear to escalate, potentially including defensive behavior. We want her future family to understand that before applying and not discover it afterward.

The wonderful news?

Reign learns FAST.

She's highly trainable, food motivated and already making progress. For a knowledgeable person willing to continue that work, there is an extraordinary dog underneath the uncertainty.

REIGN'S BEST MATCH:
Reign needs an experienced, active dog owner who understands working breeds, guardian breeds, herding breeds, or other intelligent high-drive dogs.

A securely fenced yard is required. Reign has been known to jump a fence when separated from her person, so containment and supervision will be important.

Her leash skills are still a work in progress.

She does well with other dogs and may actually benefit from having a compatible canine companion, particularly in a home without an experienced working-dog handler.

She has also done well with cats and children, although because of her intensity and current fearfulness around unfamiliar people, we will be thoughtful about matching her to the individual household rather than simply placing her based on a checklist.

Her current trainer may be able to continue working with a local adopter, which could provide Reign with valuable consistency during her transition.

REIGN IS A WORK IN PROGRESS AND WORTH THE WORK
Reign isn't the dog for someone looking for easy.

She's the dog for someone who looks at a brilliant, energetic, slightly complicated young dog and sees potential.

Someone who understands that structure doesn't mean harshness.

Someone who enjoys teaching instead of simply expecting.

Someone who can give her exercise for her body, work for her brain, confidence for her fears and affection when that busy teenage brain finally shuts down for the night.

Because according to the person caring for her, underneath all that bluster is a real sweetheart.

And the thing they'll miss most when Reign leaves?

Her cuddles and kisses!!

Reign doesn't need just a home.

She needs the right home and for the right person, she could be one incredible dog.

If this beauty can Reign over your heart please reach out to Stella's Sanctuary.
