Meet Rascal

Meet Rascal!

He just arrived to us from one of our rescue partners in Texas. He is currently at a foster home in Dyer, IN.

This boy LOVES and CRAVES human attention. He would let you pet him 24 hours a day if you were able. He takes a few minutes to warm up to you (so keep that in mind if you were to have a meet and greet with him) but once he knows you and trusts you he is fine and will willingly come to you and crawl into your lap. He also likes to stand on his hind legs and give hugs.

He does well with the other dogs in his foster home that are all 32lbs or less. He has run the yard with them and does play.

He does not like to be picked up and will whip his head around or flop over to prevent that from happening. He does put his mouth on you but doesn't bite. He is super fearful so we wonder if 1. he has never been picked up before or 2. he was dropped in the past so is now super fearful. Foster mom keeps picking him up and putting him down to get him used to it. When she is able to pick him up he doesn't wriggle and jump. His tail is wagging the whole time.

He enjoys sunning himself and relaxing in the grass.

We think a home with older children or adults would be best.

We are able to touch him on his paws, body, tail, mouth, ears and he isn't reactive at all. As I mentioned before he loves the human contact and craves it more than anything. We haven't seen him play with toys or have any interest in treats yet. he is all about the humans in the house and how long he can get them to pet him.

He doesn't know what a leash is and is scared. A harness is the best option for this guy. But we don't think he is to the point where he could go for walks yet.
He is so young though that with training and more exposure he will be fine.
At this point he needs a home with a yard since leash walking isn't possible right now.

We attempted to bath him and it was a flop. He is super duper scared of the bath. So most likely he has never had one before. He has only been at his foster home for a few days. Once he has had time to decompress and relax the new family may be able to bath him with no issues. He is too overwhelmed right now.

He is about 1 yr old, 20lbs, up to date on vaccines and rabies

Origin Story:
He came in to a Texas shelter as part of a hoarding case. He was living with 25 other dogs in a home. The rescue that took them in has a facility that is set up similar to a shelter. He had been at that facility since October 2020!!!!! For 8 months!!!! Kennel life has really been hard on him. He was so scared. All the other 24 dogs he came in with left on transports 3 days after arrival but because he was so scared and was acting fearful in his kennel he was left behind and wasn't picked month after month after month.

He needs a loving home that is patient to allow him time to decompress. He has been through quite a lot the past few months and needs an understanding safe place to land.

Are you his forever home?
