Quanah's Story
Meet Quanah

Handsome. Loyal. Full of heart. Quanah is an 8 1/2-year-old Malamute-Husky mix who’s been through a lot and is now searching for a forever home where he can finally settle in, be loved, and share his remarkable spirit.

Quanah recently lost his lifelong companion, Neera, and while the adjustment has been hard, he’s shown incredible strength and resilience. He’s ready to find his forever home, bringing all his loyalty, affection and love to a family of his own.

Originally part of a bonded pair, Quanah was a devoted companion to his person, who had to make the heartbreaking decision to rehome him due to Stage 4 cancer. With his owner’s son also unable to provide the activity and attention Quanah deserves, he’s been patiently waiting for someone to open their heart and home.

Quanah has been part of a foster family for 7 months (as of 9/2025) and is fiercely protective of his boys. He is tolerant and protective of the 6 and 8 year old special needs children in the home.

About Quanah:

This big-hearted boy weighs about 78 lbs and is built for adventure. He thrives on outdoor time and would love a home with a yard (6 foot fences a must), or better yet, an active family that enjoys hiking, walking, or playing in the snow—his absolute favorite. He’s housebroken, used to a doggy door, and has experience with 4-wheeling, exploring trails, and curling up afterward for a cozy nap. While he's slowing down with age, he does enjoy a good long walk, moderate hikes, and walking along the shoreline of Colorado's rivers and streams.

Quanah is highly intelligent and knows basic commands as well as some sledding cues. He's a pro at shake, sitting up pretty, laying down, stay, come, and several more tricks.

Quanah thrives on structure, companionship, and maintenance of food safety protocols. While he’s gentle and affectionate, Quanah may not be a good match for a family with very small children or chickens. He has experience with cats and is doing well with them. He is also able to live with other dogs as long as they are introduced slowly and with care.

Quanah may have lost his sidekick, but his spirit remains strong. What he needs now is a person or family to call his own, someone who will honor his past and help him age with dignity, love, comfort, and adventure.

Are you ready to meet your new best friend? Quanah is ready to meet you.

HOW TO ADOPT FROM PAWS N HOOVES

What do we need to set up a meet and greet? This is an adoption application that you can link to right here. https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/11077/generic

An adoption volunteer will look it over to determine who you qualify for and what we need to get you qualified.

Once you meet the puppy or adult that you want to join your family, we will ask you to put a $100 non refundable hold deposit. This holds your puppy/dog while we get you approved. We will require 2 non relative (including fiance, significant other etc.) nor cohabitating references that can speak to your dog experience, proof of home ownership or a landlord letter with any exclusions and a physical home visit looking for safety issues and discussion of any advance questions. We get personal because we want the very best for these survivors, and we're sure that you do too. You may not qualify for all dogs or any dogs. Please speak to a PNH volunteer if you aren’t sure if you will qualify. 719-500-1880

Once you are approved, we get you set up with your adoption date. Adoptions are online through Dropbox sign and phone or video if you have questions. This is legally binding, so you will want to make sure you have your questions answered before signing. We then finalize you as the adopter in our Petstablished system, which gives you access to all records, coupons, and literature.
We ask for the additional adoption fee, which varies on age. Then you go get your puppy from the fosters home (this is planned in advance) Additional $400 for puppies under 1 Additional $350 for adults between 1-6 $ Additional $200 for seniors 6+ $250 for behavior challenged dogs needing extensive training, $250 per dog for bonded pairs (total of $500)We will let you know which dogs qualify for which adoption fee.

After adoption, you are required to attend obedience classes with your new puppy at a facility that provides positive only, reward based training. This is at your expense with completion expected in the first 3 months. Adult dogs can receive obedience or behavior training, depending on need. This is at your expense, but.......we refund $100 when you send the certificate of completion!!! ( if you believe fear or force based training methods are the way to go, we are not the right fit for you and will not approve an adoption) shock collars including underground fencing, prong collars, leash whips, etc are all very counter intuitive when asking your new best friend to be the goodest boy or girl possible. Ask us how you can learn more about positive only training. Pawhoofcolorado@gmail.co
