Poppy was picked up by animal control while roaming the busy streets of Houston, Texas, with no shelter, no food, and no one looking out for her. She ended up at an overcrowded city shelter, where families passed her by again and again. As time ran out and her future became uncertain, a foster family stepped up just in time and gave her the chance she deserved.<br/><br/>It has now been over a year, and Poppy is still waiting for her forever home.<br/><br/>Poppy absolutely loves people and greets everyone like a long-lost friend. She currently lives in an apartment with another dog and does very well. When her foster dad is at work or away, she rests peacefully in her kennel. She is house-trained and does not chew or destroy things around the home.<br/><br/>She loves staying active. Her foster dad takes her on regular walks and to the local dog park, where she has made lots of dog friends. She enjoys running, playing chase, and soaking up every bit of fun she can. Texas Bark Squad is a foster-based rescue dedicated to placing dogs into safe, loving, and permanent homes. Our adoption process is designed to ensure the best possible match for both the dog and the adopter. Adoption Requirements Applicants must: • Be at least 21 years of age • Provide a valid government-issued ID • Have landlord approval if renting • Provide veterinary references for current or past pets (if applicable) • Be willing to provide a safe, stable, and committed home A fenced yard is not required for every dog but may be necessary depending on the individual dog’s needs. Adoption Process: 1. Submit an adoption application 2. Application review and screening 3. Phone or virtual interview (if needed) 4. Meet and greet (in-person or virtual for out-of-state adopters) 5. Approval and signed adoption agreement 6. Adoption fee payment and placement We prioritize the best fit for each dog based on lifestyle, environment, and experience, not on a first-come, first-served basis. Adoption Fees: Adoption fees vary depending on the dog and help cover: • Spay/neuter surgery • Vaccinations (age appropriate) • Microchipping • Heartworm testing (if age appropriate) • Preventative care Out-of-state adoptions are available.
