Poppi's Story

Mama Poppi has spent the last few months raising her babies, and now that every one of her puppies has found a home, it is finally her turn.

Poppi wandered onto a farm in northeast Alabama as a stray. When the family tried to take her to a local shelter, they were told she would likely be euthanized, so they brought her home instead. They soon discovered she was pregnant. She had nine puppies, but heartbreakingly, only five survived. Our vet estimates Poppi is around 3 to 4 years old, and we suspect this may not have been her first litter.

We don't know what Poppi's life looked like before she found that farm, but she can be nervous around new people. Give her a little patience, though, and she will love you BIG. Her foster became her buddy in about a week, and now Poppi excitedly greets her at the door every time she comes home. She is incredibly loyal and affectionate, although she could use some work on her manners so all that love doesn't knock you over.

Poppi is curious about other dogs but has been defensive during introductions, so she would likely do best as the only dog in her home, at least initially. The exception is puppies. She absolutely LOVES them, so she may happily welcome a younger dog once she is settled in. She loves neighborhood walks, does well on leash, and is potty trained. She does have a serious interest in chasing cars and squirrels, so she'll need some management there. She does well in a crate and can also be trusted outside of it with a Kong or chew to keep her busy.

A fenced yard would be a great bonus for Poppi, giving her a safe place to enjoy some outdoor time. For adopters within a couple of hours of Chattanooga, foster-to-adopt may also be an option so you can get to know her before making a lifelong commitment.

Poppi spent her time making sure her puppies found their happily ever after. Now it is her turn. Her best-fit home is a patient, loving home willing to help her build confidence, ideally with a fenced yard and no other adult dogs, where she can finally be someone's baby.

Your Local Fur Mama's Adoption Policy
We ask more questions than most rescues because it truly matters to us that every animal ends up in the right home. Our process starts with completing our full adoption application. After reviewing your application, our team will schedule a brief phone interview to get to know you better. All adopters must then submit a quick home walkthrough video for our team to review, along with vet records for any current pets. For dog adopters, the video should include outdoor space. Once everything is reviewed and approved, we will arrange a meet and greet in person for local adopters or by video for out-of-state adopters. Please note that completing the process does not guarantee an adoption, as our goal is always the safest, healthiest match for both the animal and the adopter. If the pet you applied for is not the right fit, we are happy to work with approved applicants to find a better match. For kittens, priority is given to adopters willing to adopt a pair, as they thrive with a buddy. Some kittens are listed as bonded pairs and must be adopted together.
