Polly's Story

Current Location: Centreville, VA

Polly is the kind of dog that believes personal space is a government conspiracy. If you are sitting, laying down, standing, breathing, or existing in any capacity, she would love to be involved. Preferably while giving kisses. Preferably directly in your face.

This girl is EXTREMELY food motivated. Treats? Yes. Rawhide chews? Absolutely. Medication hidden in food? Gone before she even realizes she was tricked. Honestly, she may be smarter than us and simply chooses snacks over dignity.

Polly loves playing with other dogs and being part of whatever is happening around her. Toys are okay, but PEOPLE? DOGS? ACTIVITY? Now we're talking.

She's kind of like an energy chameleon. Calm home? She'll happily relax in her crate or curl up in bed nearby. Busy household? She's clocking in immediately and joining the action.

Polly is crate-trained, house-trained, and overall wants very badly to be a good girl. She just does best with routine potty breaks and a little patience while she continues polishing up her manners. She can pull on leash when excited, but treats and consistency go a long way with her.

Bonus points: bath time doesn't phase her. Nails? Ears? Spa day? She accepts her fate with impressive patience.

Polly would LOVE a yard to zoom around in, but she'd also do great in an apartment as long as her humans are committed to walks, adventures, and helping her stretch those long legs.

If you're looking for a sweet, affectionate, slightly goofy shadow who wants to love everyone around her, Polly may be your girl

Operation Paws for Homes's Adoption Policy
Our organization provides pet adoption services to families located in Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, Southern Pennsylvania and neighboring states. We believe in responsible adoptions and strive to work with each adopter to find a good match for their home and lifestyle. Our adoption process includes completion of an application, a vet check, an interview, and a personal “meet and greet” where the family can meet and interact with their potential new four-legged family member. Throughout this process, we work to ensure each family and dog are the right fit for each other. We are fortunate to have some wonderful and active volunteers who help OPH find forever homes for over 1,000 dogs and cats a year. The key to that statement is - volunteer! Please remember that our organization is driven by caring individuals who give their personal time to help rescue these animals and provide them with the opportunity to find an amazing future! In addition to adoptions, volunteers carry out education and outreach events throughout the area, and conduct donation drives for our partner shelters in the south. Our goal is to offer a second chance to dogs and cats abandoned in shelters and out of time. Sadly, without our help, some of these adoptable animals would face almost certain euthanasia - sometimes within days of arriving at the shelter. Each year we rescue hundreds of wonderful dogs and cats. We work hard to unite them with forever families who will give them the life and love they deserve. These animals are saved only because of the dedication of our incredible adopters, fosters, donors, and volunteers.
