Polar's Story

Meet Polar, a two-year-old Siberian Husky mix weighing around 50 pounds.

Polar is a striking young dog with beautiful ice-blue eyes. He was brought in as a stray and is still figuring out the world around him, so he can seem a little unsure at first. However, every day he’s showing more confidence and starting to warm up as he learns he’s safe.

On leash, Polar enjoys taking his time to explore. He’s very much a "follow his nose" kind of guy, taking in all the scents and sights at his own pace. He’s not in a rush—he’s observant, curious, and steadily building trust with the people around him. He has met another dog while with us and seems to prefer other dogs that are low-key. He tells off dogs with too much puppy energy because he just wants to chill so he would be also fine as an only dog if that is what you want.

Based on his appearance and temperament, Polar likely has Siberian Husky traits. Siberian Huskies are intelligent, independent, and energetic working dogs originally bred to pull sleds over long distances in harsh Arctic conditions. They are known for their endurance, strong prey drive, and love of exploration. Huskies are often social and friendly, but can be a bit aloof or independent-minded, especially in new environments. They tend to thrive with patient handling, consistent structure, and plenty of physical and mental stimulation.

Polar is still adjusting, but with time, patience, and gentle guidance, he’s likely to continue blossoming into a confident and engaging companion. He’s looking for someone who understands his independent spirit and is ready to help him grow at his own pace.

This pet is available for adoption on 4/19/2026 at 5:19 PM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center.
