Platino's Story

Platino, our 15 pound nearly 2 year old Italian Greyhound mix, would like to be your dog's new best friend. Turned in to the shelter with a badly deformed leg, Platino had a rough beginning to life and he really needs a dog to feel at home. Don't we all?

We took Platino in after the shelter reached out for help. Unfortunately, his leg was so twisted Platino had never used it and it was causing him chronic pain. We made the decision to amputate and Platino's doing so much better as a tripod. Although stairs are tricky, Platino otherwise gets around great.

Sadly, Platino was not socialized well in his previous life, so new experiences can be hard for him. An ideal adopter will continue to help Platino build important life skills. Platino, as we said, would do best in a home with a friendly emotional support dog who can model appropriate behaviors. Once Platino bonds to someone, he bonds very deeply, and is incredibly sweet and cuddly. In fact, Platino would crawl inside of his person if he could. When he's feeling secure, he's also very playful.

In the house, Platino is doing great with his potty training and has had very few accidents. He likes having his emotional support dog accompany him into the yard when it's time to go. Although he's fairly quiet when his favorite person leaves, Platino vocalizes with excitement when they return. For this reason, we don't recommend a thin walled apartment. Platino may prefer a home without kids or cats.

Out in the world, Platino spooks easily. Although he's had succesful outings, he still hates the car and needs to be securely attached to travel. Platino must only go out on a leash or have supervision in a very secured yard; sudden noises make him want to run. To help with his anxiety, we've started Platino on Prozac. We recommend he stay on this for at least a few months while he adjusts to his new home (it is inexpensive).

Platino is heartworm negative and current on flea medication. His adoption fee is $200.

Giving a deserving dog like Platino a place to feel safe is a perfect way for you and your dog to start the New Year. Agree?
