Pippa fka Piper

Pippa is a 5yo yorkie mix, very sweet, but skittish especially at first. We don't believe she had a very good life before she came to our rescue. She was taken to a vet on a Wednesday for bleeding after giving birth to two deceased babies the prior weekend. The vet determined she had pyometra (a deadly uterine infection) and needed surgery right away. The owner (an elderly woman who had had her one week) did not have the funds and asked the vet to euthanize her. Thankfully, the vet called us. We got her to our vet partner right away and she did great with her surgery, and is now a healthy 7lb. little girl. Pippa did not walk on a leash when she came to us - she would put the brakes on and not move, but she has been learning and now is walking much, much better. Her house training is still a work in progress, but she is doing much better and taking her out often definitely helps. She will occasionally play with a toy. She will let you know when she is ready for some attention with her cute little barks. After 3 months, she will still move away from her foster mom when she goes to pick her up, but she stops and allows it. She loves to be held and just melts into you. She is not one that (at least not yet) likes to cuddle on the couch with her person. She still seems a little unsettled when she is placed on the couch with you, and she will want to get down after a little while. She prefers to sleep independently at night, either in an open crate or in a little doggy bed in the closet in the master bedroom. She sleeps through the night without a peep. She is very food and treat motivated and she is fed separately in a crate so she doesn't try to get the other dogs' food before they finish. A washable pee pad is kept in the crate because she always goes pee pee after eating. She loves rides in the doggy stroller, and her current routine is walking a little and riding a little more. She rides great in a car. She is currently in a home with 7 other dogs (large and small) and a cat - she does well with all of them. We do not believe she would do well in a home with children - she is too small and could easily be stepped on, and she would be scared of them. She does sometimes get under foot. She needs a fenced yard so she can do her business on her own time, plus she really enjoys sunbathing. Pippa is a sweet, sweet girl who needs her forever loving home with someone who can be patient with her while she settles in. She weighed 6 lbs. when she came to Lil Rascals, but is now up to a healthy 7lbs. She did have itchy skin and was given a Cytopoint injection which made a huge difference.
