Pipette *cleft palate puppy*'s Story

Meet Pipette

Pipette is a 13-week-old purebred Rottweiler with a big personality packed into a very special little pup. She was born with a cleft palate, which means there is an opening in the roof of her mouth that didn’t fully close during development. Because of this, food and water can sometimes pass into her nasal passages instead of going down normally.

Pipette had a tough start and was tube-fed for the first 4–5 weeks of life, but she’s been thriving ever since! She now drinks from a lixit bottle and eats dry food, though she does require hand feeding to make sure she eats safely and comfortably.

Because of her cleft palate, Pipette’s future family will need to be mindful of a few things:
• She may be more prone to aspiration (food or water entering the airway), which can lead to respiratory infections like pneumonia
• Feeding will need to stay slow, controlled, and supervised
• She may require ongoing monitoring and potentially future veterinary care depending on how she develops
• Keeping her at a healthy weight and in good condition will be especially important

Despite all of that, Pipette does not let anything slow her down.

She is a great puppy she’s playful, sassy, goofy, and full of life. She loves being around people, is incredibly affectionate and playful with everyone she meets, and has a soft, cuddly side when she’s ready to settle in. Pipette is currently living with four other dogs, is around cats constantly and does great with all of them!

Pipette is looking for a home that understands her special needs and is ready to give her a little extra care in exchange for a whole lot of love. She may need a bit more effort—but she will absolutely give you her whole heart in return.
