Reason for being in rescue: owner release to a local vet due to medical needs
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Special Needs? Piper broke her leg chasing a rabbit. She was healing from that when, according to the people who were caring for her, she was bouncing in her crate and the plate snapped in two inside her leg and the leg broke again. The owners were done with her at that point and released her to the clinic. CPR said yes to Piper and took over her ownership and care for the second surgery and recovery. After 8 weeks of cage rest, Piper's leg on x ray 3/6/24 looks great.

What kind of home would be best for me? Piper is a gorgeous white 36-pound standard poodle puppy who's had some bad breaks, literally. She has broken her leg two times in her short life so life in the fast lane may not be best for her.
Piper needs a lot of physical activity but she also needs alternative ways to engage her, such as thinking activities like games such as find the treats or hide and seek. This is a must because Piper is a all young and happy puppy. She needs a home where her adopter is home for most, if not all, of the day. Life in a crate all day waiting for you to come home would not work. However, she is living in our offices and when we are here alone, she is happy to chill at our feet with her chewy bone. She just wants to be in the same room with her person.
Piper has, for most of her short life, only lived in kennels and vet clinics. She needs to learn the world. She wants to learn the world. She is a smart girl and very food motivated so her adopter shouldn't have any problems teaching her basic commands or training her how to walk on a leash. These training sessions will be great activities to keep her engaged with you and bonding to you.
Piper would do well with a single adopter, a couple, or a family with older kids that understand Piper is excitable and amping her up is not a good idea. We think no houses where kids go running through the house in high gear. She needs a human who is a calm, centered human, confident in helping bring out the best in their dogs.
Based on observation of Piper with very small dogs (under 7 lbs) we think she needs larger, sturdier playmates. Please no toy breeds. She has not been tested with cats but based on her actions with small dogs, we don't think that would go well either. She can be bullied by larger dogs though so please, a larger playmate who will be gentle with their little sister.
What is my personality like? Although she's broken her leg twice, Piper still wants to be a puppy and do puppy things. Her caregiver explained that Piper is happy and wants to run around and play all the time. So, Piper is a typical puppy in that regard.
Piper is highly intelligent. She would enjoy so many different canine activities and we hope to find a home for her with an owner who can't wait to bring out the best in her. How do I act when I first meet new people? Because Piper had been dealing with a broken leg she hasn't had much interaction with people outside of medical facilities. She has displayed typical puppy behavior around new people (I love you and I love you and I love you!) in all areas so it is expected she will do fine with all people and enjoy being loved on. You give Piper love, attention, and treats and there's no doubt you'll be on your way to becoming Piper's best friend. Piper longs for an adopter to welcome her into their home as a loving family member. Piper has a wonderful life ahead of her. She's hoping you will be the one to adopt her and allow her to start living the life she's been dreaming of.
