Pretty Playful Pleaser
PIPER!
Say howdy to Piper, an Australian Shepherd female mix who's as beautiful as she is sweet. She'd been loose on the streets of Oak Cliff for about a month. According to social media posts, random people would feed her and give her water but then let her roam free. Finally, a good Samaritan saw her roaming the street in his neighborhood and took her in to make sure she was safe, and then contacted DASH. Piper is approx. 2-4 years old and weighs about 70 lb. She had no chip and no tags when no found. Also, she has no tail. She has the whitest, most beautiful teeth I've ever seen on a dog. Did we mention how sweet she is? Her favorite thing is to give you hugs. She stands on her back legs and wraps her arms around your waist so tight you'd think she never wants to let go. She also knows how to sit and shake hands. She likes to touch you and know you're there. She also likes to gently headbutt you in a playful way so you can rub her back and shoulders. But hey, who doesn't like a good massage? Piper is bright-eyed and alert and always willing to play. She's social with other dogs, cats and kids. She bonded immediately with my 2 year old pittie mix, and they spend hours playing in the sun. Tumbling, chasing each other, play-biting. He's a third her size and she's so patient with him, letting him crawl all over her and make playful nips at her snout. It's so much fun to watch them interact. She likes to steal his toys and get him to chase her, in a playful way. We haven't noticed any aggression at all, but she will bark like a protective dog she is if someone knocks on the front door. Piper walks on a leash like a pro and she's potty trained and good in the house. She must not have been allowed on furniture because she's very respectful of this. We've invited her to sit on the couch or cuddle on the bed, but she prefers to be on the carpet. She's not a dog who chews furniture or is destructive in any way to your property. That said, there's a bit of separation anxiety when Piper is left alone. Which honestly, hasn't been for very long at all, since I WFH and my partner is retired. Her new family will want to work with her on this. Also, as sweet as she is, she's a bit of a runner and has to be watched around an open door. In the short time we've had Piper we've come to love her already! She makes it easy. We hope Piper ends up with a family who will love her to.

General Info - PLEASE READ! *Our $450 adoption fee is based on the cost of rescuing, transporting and vetting each dog; we do not try to compete on prices with municipal shelters whose funds are paid by the city. Our philosophy is to rescue highly adoptable dogs, have them live kennel-free in private homes for temperament assessments and individual personalities.
We work hard to match EACH dog with the right family - kids or no kids, other dogs male or female and/or cats. With very rare exceptions all dogs over 6 months will be spayed or neutered PRIOR to adoption - dogs under 6 months will include a spay/neuter date AND referral info for lower-cost surgery if the adopter does not choose to use her or his personal vet. OUR VETS WILL NOT PERFORM SPAY NEUTER SURGERIES UNTIL DOG IS 6 MONTHS OLD.
