Meet Pinky

Pinky is a 9 year old, 4 pound Chihuahua that made her way North when her owner died and she ended up in a shelter. She is incredible cute and small, but there’s nothing little about her attitude! Pinky is good in her crate and has been mostly housebroken (the snow was a bit of a shock after being a Texas dog for life.) She is low energy and a hard core napper. She eats well, despite having just a few teeth left after her dental. She’s very thin, but we think all the changes in her like in the past few months are to blame. Her blood work was deemed excellent for a dog her age. She has a few growths that the doctor was not worried about.

Pinky has been friendly with men and women, but she has a very strong opinion on how she should be handled. When she doesn’t like it, she gets crabby quickly. You should listen to her warning. She will growl and snap and has no concept of her tiny stature. Pinky was an only dog before coming into rescue. She is living with dogs and cats, but she is crabby to them too. She guards food from them, will chase them from the kitchen when food is being prepped, will not share her bed and generally prefers them to stay away from her as much as possible. She is beginning to understand that her bad behavior doesn’t fly here. The only one she remotely tolerates is a young puppy.

She is not a big barker, she barks when you get home and that’s about it. She does walk on a leash pretty well, but doesn’t require much walking. Her knees are a little wobbly, but do not require surgery. She can do the steps in and out of the house, but is not able to get on furniture on her own.

Her ideal home would be adult only, with very few animals (and if any, ones that will ignore her and not take offense when she comes at them) with Chihuahua or spicy small dog experience. Her new family should be willing to give her space and not push her. She isn’t much of a lap dog and especially hates to be disturbed while sleeping. She has settled into the routine in her foster home and regularly asks for attention, on her terms of course! It will likely take her a bit to settle again, so patience will be required. Pinky will likely ignore you upon meeting you.
