Pierre and his brothers Abraham Darby, Mr Lincoln, and David Austin, and sisters Gertrude and Polyantha are named after varieties of beautiful roses.<br/><br/>Pierre is one good boy! This 6 month old hound mix is friendly with everyone he meets including other dogs, cats and kids too. He has a gentle nature to him and is super sweet. Pierre’s a brave boy who has been spending time in foster on Block Island while he waits for his forever home - he’s been on ferry rides, romped around on the beaches and taken in some of the most gorgeous scenery the Ocean State has to offer. He especially enjoys playing with toys, sniffy walks, and hanging with his humans.<br/><br/>Pierre is doing great with house training and crate training and is working on his leash skills every day but could use more practice. We strongly recommend that all our dogs attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog.<br/><br/>Adopting Pierre de Ronsard means bringing home a bundle of happiness that will fill your life with laughter and companionship.<br/><br/>Medical Note: This puppy was born to a mother dog who was positive for heartworm disease and had circulating microfilaria. Microfilariae can be transmitted from mothers to unborn puppies through the placenta; these worms, however, will not develop in the puppy into adult heartworms because the heartworms must pass through a mosquito to fully develop. Microfilariae may live up to two years within the host dog in whom they were born, but they should be eliminated when the puppy received its first dose of heartworm preventative. This puppy has been given heartworm preventative regularly while in SOS care, but to ensure that any remaining microfilaria are fully eliminated and the risk to other dogs (via mosquitos) is minimized, SOS recommends that the puppy be kept on Advantage Multi or Parasedge (imidacloprid + moxidectin) for monthly heartworm preventative for at least the first three months after adoption.
