Phoebe Chihuahua Mix Palatine, IL

Hi! Can you see me down here? I’m Phoebe, a 9-year-old Chihuahua mix. At only 5 pounds, I sometimes feel overlooked.

I am housebroken and do great going out on a regular schedule. Even though I do well on a leash, I enjoy being off-leash in a fenced yard. In fact, I am showing pretty good recall. Additionally, I am excellent in the car, happy to settle into my bed to sleep comfortably during any trips.

My fosters don’t even use a crate because I am so well-behaved in their house when left alone. For example, during the day I will burrow in a cozy dog bed and blanket. I prefer to be as close to my people as possible in the evenings — couch for tv time and then the human bed at night. I have a slight preference for men — don't tell my foster mom, but I adore foster dad because I feel so safe in his arms. Or perhaps it’s that he won me over with tasty meals of wet food and firm kibble. Yum!

I’m not a yappy dog — the only time you will hear from me is when I am excited about seeing people and other dogs on walks or when someone enters the home. Actually, some might say I am a delicate little thing. Given my tiny size, I am cautious of big people moving around and want to be sure I'm not stepped on! Therefore, I would probably do best in a home without young children (but am okay with older, more predictable kids). I enjoy being picked up and ask that you do so when bringing me through doorways, on elevators — any new environment where I would rather be safely snuggled in your arms.

As I get to know you, I become a perfect snuggle buddy and will offer tiny kisses of approval! Not only am I happy to cuddle with my people, I have recently discovered that the resident Chihuahua mix also enjoys snuggling! While I have warmed up to him and am happy to sniff other dogs on walks, I’m pretty indifferent to other dogs in the home.
