Petunia's Story
Meet Petunia! ?
Petunia is still in search of her forever home, and while she requires a special kind of care, she’s a wonderful dog with a big personality.

About Petunia:

Age: Just under 1 year old
Breed: shar pei/ Frenchie/ pug mix
Mobility: Petunia has a congenital spinal issue that initially affected her ability to walk, but with care, she now walks, runs, and trots (though she sometimes looks like a wobbly toddler!). She will always need to see a specialist in case of any future mobility concerns.
Meet Petunia!

This fierce, loving, independent, and confident little Frenchie-Shar Pei-Pug mix came to us unable to walk properly due to mobility issues. After an MRI/CT scan, we discovered she has a curved spine, a congenital condition. But Petunia hasn’t let that slow her down! Over the past few months, she’s learned to walk on her own, with the help of a wheelchair for her walks. She’s continued to thrive and, while technically considered a disabled dog, she doesn’t require special care.

Petunia has a solid routine for food and potty time. She would do best with someone who’s home more frequently or works from home. Though she loves other dogs, she can sometimes be a bit of a bully, so she needs someone who can provide gentle corrections. She does well with dogs her size or a tad bigger.

She’s crate trained and will happily eat, sleep, and rest in her crate when she’s not being watched. It’s crucial, though, that Petunia isn’t left unattended around toys or anything she can fit in her mouth—this girl loves to chew and could choke due to her airways. We’re hopeful that some of her puppy behavior will mellow out with time, but for now, she needs a crate or x-pen for her safety.

Petunia enjoys a couple of short walks a day, which are some of her favorite moments. She’s even learned to tell you when she needs to go potty. Despite her spinal condition, she can run, jump, hop, walk, and zoomie just like any other pup!

Her ideal home would be one with no stairs to get in and out. Petunia is shy at first and takes time to warm up to new people. She doesn’t enjoy strangers and fancies herself a bit of a guard dog—though she’s all bark and no bite.

If you’re interested in giving this sweet girl a loving home, text 813-695-5473 to schedule a home check and fill out an application!
