Petey's Story
Petey is a 4-year old American Bulldog/Beagle/Heeler mix that weighs around 40 lbs. We REALLY need to find a foster or adopter for sweet Petey as soon as possible! He is currently in a boarding facility and needs a home where he can finally learn what it’s like to have a family. Where he can learn how to be a dog. Where he can blossom!

This is Petey’s story. Along with 3 other dogs, Petey spent his entire life living outside tethered on an 5 foot chain. The dog’s owner died in April 2024 and for 8 months the dogs survived alone, still tethered, attended to when possible by a family member or a caring neighbor. In early December 2024, AC ARF heard of these dogs and learned that they were a high risk of being stolen. We took immediate action to get them into a safe environment. All were relocated and are now safe, cared for and living indoors for the first time in their lives. They have all been vetted and are putting on needed weight.

We are looking to find Petey a foster or foster-to-adopt home. A new home to call his own, a safe place to live, a soft bed indoors and a family to love him. It is a joy to see his happy face and wiggly butt when he is greeted! Sweet Petey has only had positive interactions with new people and gets along with other dogs after proper introduction. We aren’t sure how he would be with cats yet.

Petey’s former owner provided his outside dogs with the bare necessities of life but did not know they also needed protection from parasites. As a result Petey and two dogs tested positive for heartworm. Petey has already begun his heartworm treatment. He is now living and being cared for at Little Lake Pet Lodge and needs to live in a home environment to continue his healing journey, which takes up to 6 months. All expenses for his care (veterinary, food/supplies) are provided by AC ARF.

Petey is fully vaccinated, neutered, and on preventatives. Friendly and loyal, he is adapting quickly to a completely different lifestyle. He is smart and eager to learn and shows improvement every single day. Caretakers work with him to provide frequent outside time for exploration and play, and support his new social and house trained skills. Petey is, practically speaking, potty trained already. Amazing!

Petey loves car rides, exploring, meeting new people and dogs, visiting stores and parks and learning how to play with dog friends! He has proven to be an astonishing young dog, experiencing his new world with enthusiasm and charm. With plenty of charm and energy Petey would do well with a family that has time and room for him to run and play; a family that will take him for walks, have play dates with other dogs, snuggle on a soft bed, and be loved forever.

AC ARF believes that dogs should thrive, not just survive. Petey is a spunky little guy that deserves to shine and live his full potential. We can’t wait to see him continue to blossom in a real home!
