Peter is an active, independent little guy who loves exploring the world around him. On walks, he can pull with excitement, but he relaxes once he gets into the rhythm. Indoors, he's more focused-though still learning how to redirect his curiosity. With people, he can be a little hesitant at first, sometimes barking when meeting new faces, but he warms up quickly and enjoys gentle affection once he feels safe.

Some of his favorite things include:
- Exploring every new scent outdoors
- Independent playtime with toys
- Tasty treats-he's very food motivated
- Showing off his "sit" and "come" (especially when food is involved!)

Because Peter is young and still learning, he sometimes has a hard time giving up toys or his food dish. But he responds well to a "trade" and has already shown he's eager to learn with the right encouragement.

Peter Would Do Best In a Home That Offers:
- Kids around 12+ who understand a shy pup's boundaries
- A doggy friend could be a match (introductions on a case-by-case basis)
- Patience, training, and positive reinforcement to help him gain confidence
- Regular walks, playtime, and consistency to burn energy and build trust

Peter may be a little unsure of new things, but he's resilient, loving, and ready to bond with someone who believes in him. With guidance, this shy boy will grow into the loyal companion he's meant to be.

---

Condensed Staff Assessment Notes: Peter is an energetic young dog full of curiosity. He loved exploring the shelter grounds, but it's challenging to redirect his focus. He pulled on the leash initially, relaxing as we walked. Inside, he improved, though he still struggled with redirection. During husbandry handling, he was excitable. Peter tolerated being handled while eating, but was reluctant to give up his dish, eating faster when I tried to retrieve it. He is very food motivated. He understood basic commands like "sit" and "come," though he was initially hesitant. Peter preferred playing independently with toys and was resistant to letting me take them from him; I used a trade strategy to exchange for treats or other toys. When meeting new people, he showed defensive cues at first, such as barking, but warmed up quickly. His interaction with another dog started appropriate on approach, turned a bit awkward when they came face to face, but ended positively.

If interested in a pet at the Lycoming County SPCA, please fill out an adoption application. The application is available on our website: lycomingspca.org. We may require additional steps in our process such as a home visit, permission from parents, or other additional requests. We appreciate your patience as we complete your adoption. Before adding a new member to your family, please consider the following: Many pets live 10 to 15 years. How old will you be? How old will your children be? Is there a chance you could move in the next 10 years? Are you willing to restrict your choice of housing to accommodate a pet? If the pet is for a child are you willing to assume the care of the pet? Children must have parental guidance to care for a pet regardless of their age. Each breed of animal has genetic characteristics that need to be considered. Have you researched the breed that you are interested in? Are you financially prepared for a pet? Consider the following expenses: spaying or neutering, basic veterinary care, flea preventative, heart worm preventative, license, food, grooming.
