Peter Barker's Story

Meet Peter Barker – 2 Years Old, 100% Extra!

Small dog, BIG opinions, and a voice he isn’t afraid to use! Peter Barker is a 2-year-old Chiweenie who believes in loving his people hard, protecting his kingdom (aka your house), and making sure everyone knows when something interesting is happening.

Let’s get one thing out of the way: Peter is NOT an apartment dog. He likes his voice, uses it proudly, and has absolutely no plans to pursue a career in silent living.

Peter is potty trained, crate trained, and full of love for his people. Now, here’s the fine print: he’s not going to be the guy who runs up to greet you at the meet-and-greet. In fact, he might make you wonder if he even likes you. Don’t take it personally! Peter is a slow-burn kind of guy. He needs someone willing to give him time, space, and a chance to decide you’re his person.

But once you’re in? YOU’RE IN. Peter will love you with his whole little heart and become your very best friend.

He’s not looking for a revolving door of visitors or a social calendar packed with strangers. He’s looking for his people, his home, and someone who understands that the best friendships are sometimes worth waiting for.

Peter’s ideal home: A patient family, no apartment living, and humans who appreciate a little personality (and aren’t afraid of a little commentary).

If you’re willing to let Peter write the rules of the first date and give him time to fall in love, you just might find your forever best friend.

Fair warning: He’s a Barker by name AND by nature.

Peter is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccinations, and current on heartworm and flea/tick prevention.

Peter’s adoption fee is $400. Applications can be filled out at www.MidwestSmallBreedRescue.org.

Hello future adopters! If you find a pet you would like to apply for, please submit an application. One of our adoption representatives will be in contact if your application seems like a good fit. Once an application is screened, a representative will do a vet check to make sure your current and previous pets were taken care of. Once that is completed, a landlord check is often completed if you are renting. Provided that is properly screened, a representative will schedule a meet and home visit for the prospective pet.
