Pepper's Story

Introducing Pepper!
the girl who proves that a little spice can come with a whole lot of heart.

If you’re looking for a dog who stands out the moment you meet her, Pepper is it. This 1-year-old, 37-pound Plott Hound mix wears a gorgeous brindle coat like it was made for her, but it’s her personality that really makes people fall in love. Pepper isn’t just a good dog — she’s the kind of dog people remember.

Pepper’s story is one of resilience and second chances. Rescued from Screven County, GA, she spent time in a prison training program where she was taught and cared for by inmates who helped shape her into the incredibly smart, attentive, and well-mannered girl she is today. Pepper already knows commands like sit, paw, and lay down, and she absolutely loves learning new tricks—especially if treats are part of the deal.

True to her hound nature, Pepper’s nose loves a good mystery. Walks with Pepper are a little adventure, a little exploration, and a lot of tail-wagging curiosity as she follows scents that catch her interest. She walks nicely on leash but might pause now and then to investigate the world one sniff at a time.

Pepper is a social sweetheart. She gets along with cats and children but prefers to be the queen of her castle at home. An active family, hiking partner, or home with a fenced yard would be perfect for her energetic, outdoor-loving spirit.

After playtime and exploration, Pepper shows her softer side. She loves curling up close on the couch, soaking up attention, and settling into cozy, quiet evenings with her people.

Smart, loyal, affectionate, and full of personality, Pepper is ready to add just the right amount of spice and a whole lot of love to her forever home. 🌶️🐾

Pepper is spayed, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, and microchipped.

**Please note: completing an "adoption inquiry" via Adopt-a-pet/Petfinder does not constitute an HFG Dog Rescue adoption application. All adoption applications must be completed on www.hfgdr.org**

HFG Dog Rescue is a 100 percent foster-based rescue located in Berkeley Heights, NJ with a sister location, The Almost Home Wellness Center, in Aiken, SC.
