Meet Penny (CP)

Penny is a very enthusiastic and energetic dog who loves attention and is extremely curious of the world around her. She will try to sit in your lap as if she were a small lap dog if allowed. She enjoys lounging at your feet while sleeping on the porch. She loves squeaky toys and chasing after balls. Tug of War is also a favorite and often will not return a ball or stick if she can tug with you instead. She and her sister Millie often play games of tug of war with any kind of toy or rope. She, with her sister Millie, has spent her 3 years as an outside dog with room to roam within the confines of an invisible fence which she has never tried to break out of. She enjoys a good walk but will pull on the leash when distracted, especially if a squirrel comes out. She has not been successfully off leash trained by her owner. She does better with her trainer Stacey. She has been trained with a shock collar; most often only on the sound or vibrate settings, rarely on an actual shock mode. She is protective and is wary of strangers. She and her sister Millie are protective and jealous of each other when around their main person, Mary. Penny is apprehensive around strangers and those she is not comfortable with and children. She needs to be handled with caution when introducing to new people, especially children. Penny enjoys a good dip in the pond or the swimming pool. She is not an active swimmer but enjoys being almost fully immersed especially in the heat of the summer. Chasing dragon flies around the pond or swimming pool is a great joy to Penny. She is a very curious dog and new things are always an adventure. Even though frogs make her froth at the mouth, she just can't leave them alone. She picks them up and tosses them so she can chase them. When they don't move she will bark to try to get their attention. Penny can be a prolific barker if something gets her attention or she trees a squirrel or hears or sees a wild animal. Millie and Penny chase squirrels up trees. Penny loves to just stay and watch and wait for the squirrel to jump or run down the tree. Penny and her sister Millie have been together since birth. They have been very good together for the most part, but have experienced Littermate Syndrome and have had episodes of fighting. When they are in a really good place together, they love playing chase and tug of war. Due to their limited episodes of fighting, it has been decided they would live better more satisfied lives apart. We are not sure how Penny would do with other dogs. She has played with her cousin German Shorthaired Pointer, Benny and enjoys chasing and nipping at him. Caution in introducing her to new animals is suggested. She is extremely curious of the family cat. She is cautious around him but does approach and nuzzle him. She and Millie have chased him and he has swatted at them. When disciplined they leave him alone. Penny has never spent time indoors but she is very trainable and with loving and patient instruction, we feel very confident she could become a well behaved indoor pet but she is very comfortable being outdoors and in her crate. Given plenty of outdoor activity and especially the ability to run at free will, when safe to do so, she could settle into indoor life with ease. Penny could be a very loyal and affectionate companion for anyone who is willing to be patient and kind and disciplined with her. She is ready for lots of unconditional love and disciplined guidance. Penny does best when the humans around her use discipline and guidance with her. We also feel she could be trained for agility. She is a very agile and athletic dog and learns to follow instructions quickly with gentle but firm guidance. Most importantly she wants to feel as if she is the apple of your eye and your most valued companion.
