Penny's Story
FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill out an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks!

---

Meet Penny!

This sweet girl came to us when her owner was diagnosed with a terminal illness. She's being fostered by the owners friend and has had a lot of change and loss. So... that means we are looking for the MOST AMAZING forever home for Penny. We have some very clear ideas about her PERFECT home!

Penny is about 4.5 years old. She's actually a labradoodle. A little one - at only 24#. Penny is a very smart girl, she's licensed and trained as a therapy dog - visiting schools and more - she adores children. Her previous owner took Penny everywhere, and Penny is great in the car. Walks and adventures have been part of her life these last 4+ years. Her current foster has said that Penny is pretty flexible. While she LOVES the walks and dog park - she's also down couch time and hanging out.

While ‘working’ in Therapy and on walks - Penny loves all people. At home, she’s intimidated by adult men, not teens or even young adult men, but older adult men. She just moves away initially. Her adoptive home would need to be patient, if there is an adult male in the home. She is great with little dogs - like knows like - and will figure out the big dog thing. She lived with two larger dogs.

We think her ideal home would continue working with her with her Therapy work, agility and perhaps even nose work. She's got a great nose. If you like squirrels in your yard - then Penny is not the dog for you - because squirrels are fun to chase. She doesn't really care about cats, Penny met one of our dog tester cats - and she was more afraid of him then anything. Ha!

GROOMING will be part of her adopters budget - likely every 6 weeks!
She is not a hypoallergenic dog.

This dog is spayed, microchipped and fully vaccinated!

The 3-3-3 rule is a guideline for transitioning a rescue dog into its new home and helping it to settle in. It suggests that the first three days should be used for adjusting to its new surroundings, the next three weeks for training and bonding, and the first three months for continued socialization and training.

Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption.

Adoptions typically take place in Stanwood.
Adoption fee is $425. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3 and half of your adoption fee may be tax deductible.

Save-A-Mutt is a foster based rescue, we do not have a facility to visit. Our adoptions are typically done Monday - Saturday, we are closed on Sunday’s to give our volunteers at least one day off. You must be available to do meets and adoptions during that time frame. We can make exceptions only with the approval of the foster home.

Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We don’t ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to come to Stanwood WA to pick up your puppy.
