Update 3/11/2024. The word most often used to describe Penny is "sweet," and she truly is the sweetest girl. She is about 7yo, but she is low/medium energy and seems a little older, though this could be because she has had a life before rescue that involved neglect and overbreeding. Penny will play with her toys, run a few pit-fit laps in the backyard, and then cuddle up on the couch for snuggles. Her favorite thing is cuddling, though she also loves her daily walks, too. She knows quite a few commands and is leash-trained with the use of a gentle leader. She has sensitive skin and is prone to ear gunk, so she gets regular medicated baths and ear cleanings. Though these aren't her favorite parts of the week, she is very tolerant, easy to bathe, and makes no fuss about ear cleaning. However, she definitely expects a cookie at the end of her grooming—at least one. Treats and cuddles are Penny's love language.

Update 1/9/2024. Penny has been in her foster home for about four months, and In that time, she has proven that she is truly the sweetest dog. She has completed basic obedience and knows sit, stay, look, come, down, a few trick commands, and to heel on leash. She uses a gentle leader on her walks. Though Penny is about 6-7 years old, she acts a little older and is pretty low key. She is a lower energy dog, who has short bursts of playful energy. Everyone who visits her foster parents falls in love with Penny, but unfortunately none are in the market for a new furry family member. Penny has been in class with other dogs, and though she is slightly calmer in the presence of small dogs and puppies, she still needs to be an only pet. When Penny joined her foster home, she didn’t seem to fully know what to do with toys, but she has now learned how to play, loves to snuggle/wrestle her stuffed toys, and plays with interactive food puzzles. Above all, Penny loves to snuggle with her people and be petted. She will soak up every ounce of love and affection people give her.

Posted 9-23-23. Penny is the sweetest, most loving pittie girl you will meet. She is 6 years old, snuggly, relaxed, and eager to please. Though she plays a little with toys, her biggest joy is in snuggling with her humans and soaking up affection. She is housebroken and crate-trained and is learning obedience commands in her foster home. So far, she knows Sit and Paw and is quickly learning Down and Stay, and she is both food and praise motivated making training easy. She’s a leaner...leaning into the closest human’s legs and looking up with adoring eyes earns her a lot of chest rubs and cuddles. Calm and confident are two good descriptors for Penny.

Penny had a rough life before rescue. She was abandoned by her original owners after they overbred her to the point of nearly killing her. Had they tried to breed her again, she very likely would have died. She is now spayed and UTD on veterinary care after a life of neglect, and she is one happy girl. Unfortunately because of her rough start in life, she is not good with other dogs. Penny is not aggressive, but she doesn’t know what to do or how to act when in the same space as other dogs. She can be redirected when she sees another dog on walks etc. but would do well to be in a home without other pets. Humans, though? No problem. She loves everyone! Her foster mom uses a walker/rollator/wheelchair for mobility, and Penny has no issues or skittishness around these assistive devices. Loud noises, thunder, coffee bean grinder? No problem, she ignores them. She rides well in the car — just lays back and enjoys the scenery.

We hope this sweet girl finds a soft place to land so she can spoil her humans with love and be spoiled in return.
