Pearl in VA - Happy, Smart, Loving & Goofy's Story

Pearl is a true gem she wandered into our lives as a stray from West Virginia and has been dazzling everyone around her ever since. She is friendly, smart, loving, goofy, playful, loyal, and gentle, and she brings all of those qualities to the table with a smile on her face (and the tip of her tongue peeking out whenever she's feeling relaxed and content!).

Pearl has the manners to match her luster. She is fully housebroken, leash trained, and genuinely well-behaved indoors non-destructive, calm through the night, and completely unbothered by loud noises like the vacuum or a rumbling thunderstorm. She responds to commands, sits for treats (peanut butter and cheese are her favorite), understands "no," comes when called (or whistled for!), and takes treats from your hand with the delicacy of a true lady.

Pearl also knows how to have a good time. She plays hard with the big dogs in her foster home, loves a rousing game of chase, and will even bring a toy back to keep the fun going. One of her most endearing qualities is the way she greets her people after an absence: she trots over with a toy to show you, wags her tail with great enthusiasm, and then saunters off like the whole thing was entirely her idea. She sleeps like a diva on her back, paws over her head, legs elegantly crossed and her "come play with me" disco moves (head whips, shimmies, Pyr paw, wiggle butt) are a sight to behold! When she wants some love, she'll tuck her head right under your arm for ear scratches.

Pearl has lived with two Great Pyrenees and two Papillons, and she has met other dogs in public settings like a farmer's market and an outdoor cafe without any fuss just happy, curious energy. She's great with kids of all ages, from toddlers to older children, and while she can be a little shy around men at first, she warms up quickly. She genuinely thrives on companionship, so she would love another canine sibling, or humans who work from home and can offer her lots of attention. A 4-foot fenced in yard would be pyr-fect! She is, quite simply, a rare find: a luminous, layered, one-of-a-kind gem just waiting for the right home to call her own.

NYS Registered Rescue # RR102
NGPR dogs are in foster homes at the location specified on their full listing. View the full listing (with location, fee and application link) at

Completion of an application is required to be considered for any dog. Please fill out the application on our website and we will contact you.

Due to the high level of interest we can't respond to emails unless an application has been submitted.

Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature (www.nationalpyr.org/know-the-breed) and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicants ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.

Secure VISIBLE fencing is required; invisible fencing WILL NOT contain this breed.
