Peaches's Story
UPDATE September 2025

Peaches is a lovely little dog who is ready for her forever home. She is 8 years old and weighs 24 pounds. She came to us from a shelter in Quebec. She was found tied to a tree in a park so we do not know her history. We feel it is likely she came from a back yard breeder because it was evident that she had recently given birth.

She’s been with us for several months because she came to us with some health issues that required a lot of time to treat. Initially, she needed two surgeries to remove very large tumours from her mammary glands. She was spayed during her first surgery. Thankfully these tumours were benign and she is fully recovered from those procedures. She also had her teeth cleaned at this time. Peaches is doing so well now that the tumours are gone. She is a very happy and active little dog!

After her surgeries she battled a UTI but is now fully recovered. Our vet has recommended a special diet geared to Urinary Health. She is eating a mix of a special kibble and canned food from our vet. Her adopter must be willing to continue with this special diet. Her anal glands are sometimes full so we also add a special fibre boost powder to her food that helps to prevent this problem.

Despite all of these challenges this awesome little dog has never lost her great spirit and it has not slowed her down. She has a lot of energy and loves to go for walks and would do well with an active adopter who can give lots of daily exercise. We feel she is best suited to a home with a safely fenced back yard as she gets the zoomies and loves to run around. She can not be trusted off leash so a fenced yard is important.

She has not shared her foster home with another dog but her foster parents have introduced to a few dogs since she has been with them. She is mostly indifferent but we feel she may in time enjoy the company of another friendly dog. Meet and greets would be necessary. On her walks she will bark at other dogs but is easy to manage until she settles down. We do not know how she would do living with cats.

She is treat motivated and is eager to learn. Her foster parents have taught her several tricks and commands. She will bark a bit when her foster parents leave the house, she does calm down and stop after a bit of time but due to this she may not be suited to an apartment setting.

Her foster parents share the following:

Peaches happily greets strangers with a smile and wagging tail. She's working on her doggie socialization, and recently spent a weekend learning how to play with a 30lb goldendoodle. She is smart and listens well, learning how to "paw" in three days! Her recall has not been tested as she likes to be within 2 meters of her foster parent(s) at all times (usually the one who's eating). That said, she is an athletic and nimble girl, often climbing and perching on top of couches. Peaches enthusiastically jumps into the car, but whines once she realizes she must ride tethered in back, and not in the front seat as a passenger princess. She is well-behaved and adored at the vet.

We are so glad that we were able to help Peaches. Her health issues have been a long journey but she’s done well and we are so thrilled that she is thriving.

If you are interested in learning more about Peaches please feel free to contact us. You can read about our adoption process on our website (www.adoptadogsavealife.com).

Our adoption process includes an online application, a telephone interview, a home visit (virtual or in person), reference checks and a meeting with the dog.
An adoption fee of $500.00 applies.

Peaches is in a foster home in Toronto.
