Patty & Selma (bonded pair)'s Story

Meet Patty & Selma!

Not long ago, two sisters found themselves alone and forgotten.

Patty and Selma were reported abandoned at MD Anderson, left to fend for themselves as storms loomed on the horizon. Time was running out. After several days of patience, determination, and teamwork, shelter staff were finally able to bring them to safety just before the weather rolled in.

When they arrived, they were thin, frightened, and unsure of everything around them. It was clear life had not always been kind to them. Every sound made them cautious, and every new experience was met with uncertainty.

But then something beautiful happened.

Within just a day, these scared sisters began showing us who they truly are. Their fear slowly melted away, revealing two incredibly sweet, affectionate girls who simply wanted love, comfort, and reassurance.

As they settled in, another thing became crystal clear: Patty and Selma share an extraordinary bond. Even when housed separately, they searched for one another. They found comfort in each other's presence and confidence in each other's companionship. Through abandonment, uncertainty, and change, they always had one constant in their livestheir sister.

Because of that special connection, Patty and Selma must be adopted together.

Today, these girls are waiting patiently in the shelter for either a foster home or, even better, a forever family willing to give them the second chance they deserve.

Both girls are approximately 1 year old and appear to be fully grown. Patty weighs 16.5 lbs, while Selma weighs 21.5 lbs, and we expect both girls to remain under 25 lbs as adults. Without a DNA test, we cannot confirm their breed, but based on their appearance, we suspect they may be Puggle mixes (Pug x Beagle).

Patty and Selma would thrive in a patient, understanding home that is willing to allow them to adjust at their own pace. While they have made tremendous progress since arriving at the shelter, they are still building confidence and learning that the world can be a safe place. We believe they would do best with adopters who have previous dog experience and live a relatively calm, low-key lifestyle.

We do not know how they would do with cats, and they have had limited exposure to children. Because of this, we feel a home without cats would be ideal. Older, respectful children who understand boundaries and can give the girls space when needed may be a good fit.

Like many young dogs who have had an unstable start to life, Patty and Selma will need continued guidance with the basics, including house training, leash skills, confidence building, and general manners. Their future family should be prepared to invest time, patience, and consistency into helping them blossom. We have no doubt that once they settle into a loving and stable environment, their personalities will continue to shine.

A home with a securely fenced yard would be wonderful for them, providing a safe place to explore and gain confidence. However, given their small size and moderate activity level, they could also do well in an apartment or condo setting as long as they receive adequate exercise, enrichment, and opportunities to decompress.

Today, Patty and Selma are spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative, and maintained on monthly preventatives. They are ready to begin the next chapter of their lives.

What they need now is a family willing to open their heart to both of them and keep their unbreakable bond intact.

Their story started with abandonment, but it doesn't have to end there.

Somewhere out there is a family who will become their happy endinga family who will show them that love stays, that home is forever, and that sisters never have to say goodbye.

Important Information:

All of our dogs, including Patty and Selma, are currently located in Texas and will be transported to their adopters once the adoption process is finalized. Transportation is included in the adoption fee. Please note that adopters will not be able to meet them in person prior to committing, as transport occurs after adoption is completed.

MA License #479
