Patch's Story
May 2026 Update

Patch continues to make good strides in his foster home. He is a good-natured pup who gets along well with everyone.

Patch had his neurology appointment. We were concerned because he has a wobbly gait and tremors. The neurologist diagnosed Patch with cerebellar hypoplasia disease. According to her assessment he is not in pain, there is no treatment and his condition will not get worse.

The neurologist report includes the following:

He has no exercise restrictions. Must be cautious with high surfaces (furniture / getting out of cars) and stairs (up and down) and bodies of water. The main concern is
if he accidentally falls down the stairs/ furniture/ out of the car, causing injury and/or if he were to go into a body of water and cannot swim he could aspirate water or worse, drown. Please gate off access to the stairs and if walking around ponds, please have him on leash at all times. Patch can otherwise run, play with other dogs (that he gets along with), and enjoy walks, runs, etc...
Because Patch's movements are exaggerated and not always coordinated, please ensure that should he be introduced to new dogs (eg: in a setting of a dog park) that he can escape from dogs that may display aggression towards him so that he does not get injured.

Patch gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home. He loves playing and cuddling with his foster dog buddies. He is also learning from them and has made good progress with his house training and other routines. We feel he is best in a home with another friendly dog so this learning and companionship can continue.

Patch needs a safely fenced back yard so that he can run and play safely. For that reason we feel he is best suited a detached home with a fenced yard. He would not do well in an apartment.
He loves to be outdoors and going for walks.

Patch would not do well being left alone for long hours during the day. He is not used to young children and for this reason we are seeking an adult home (children 12 years+).

We have scheduled Patch’s neuter for early June. He will be available for adoption once he is recovered. Please see our website for more information about our rescue and adoptions.

***Patch’s bio may change as we learn more about him.

Our adoption process includes an online application, a telephone interview, a home visit (virtual or in person), reference checks and a meeting with the dog.
An adoption fee of $500.00 applies.

Patch is in a foster home in Lindsay ON.

Meet Patch

This little cutie is new to our rescue. He is an adorable Chihuahua / Jack Russell Mix who weighs about 10 pounds. His date of birth is October 2025.

Patch came to us from owners who were not able to provide proper care.

They got Patch as a young pup but did no vetting and never took him outside of their apartment. He was kept in a tiny crate - far too small for a dog his size.

Patch is adjusting to his foster home. He really enjoys attention and cuddles. He is easy to handle and pick up. He loves playing with his toys and chasing leaves blowing around the back yard. He enjoys meal time and is a good eater.

Patch always used a pee pad so he is learning to go to the bathroom outside. His adopter must be prepared to continue with his housetraining. He needs to go outside often so he would not do well being left alone for long hours every day.

Patch has been to our vet. He was vaccinated and we did some testing. Patch has some issues with walking - he is a bit wobbly at times. Our vet feels he should be evaluated by a neurologist. We will update Patch’s bio once we learn more from the neurologist. He has an appointment next week (April 1st).

***Please keep an eye on his bio - we will share more info as his fosters learn more about Patch. Feel free to contact us by phone or email.

You can learn more about our rescue and adoption process on our website (www.adoptadogsavealife.com). Our adoption process includes an online application, a telephone interview, a home visit, reference checks and a meeting with the dog. An adoption fee of $500.00 applies.
