Looking for a new best friend? Introducing Patch – who’s ready to apply for the job!

Patch is an incredibly charming approx. 6 year old mixed breed. He’s a sturdy, yet portable, perfect size at around 35 lbs. He’s super snuggly and will absolutely melt in to you if you let him.

Patch has learned basic obedience and has had remote collar training for off-leash adventures. He loves to train and learn and has shown aptitude and interest in a lot of activities. During his stay at Sol Dog, he has traveled all over the place with his trainer and behaved himself in stores and out and about. He’s shown us that he loves the spring pole, flirt pole, playing fetch and tug, agility, and more. His prior owner pointed out his hiking abilities, and had this to say: “He is an excellent hiking buddy, remembers which trail junctions we took the last time and makes the same choices the next; he always remembers the exact way back, even if I don’t.” Just a fun dog who really thrives when he’s included – whatever the activity!

Overall, he's a moderate energy level dog who needs his brain worked and a bit of physical activity each day. He values his sleep, but rarely turns down an opportunity to kick it in to gear to have fun.

Patch is good with most other dogs. His best match would be like sized or smaller females, but he’s gotten along with many males, too. He was very curious about the cats we introduced him to...probably a little too interested to be trusted immediately in a home with cats. That said, his reaction also showed potential to learn how to interact appropriately if proper introductions and supervision were provided.

Patch is crate trained, house trained and dog door trained. He respects being asked to stay off furniture, but will happily join you, if invited.

Patch has met a couple children (8 yr+) and was appropriate and sweet. We don’t think he’d be suitable with a home with young children, however -- he doesn't have the necessary tolerance level.

Patch doesn’t take to all people instantly, and needs a proper introduction. With practice, this is becoming easier and easier for him. He is also working on his tolerance of grooming and veterinary procedures. He's improving a ton, and can be handled with a muzzle on, even on the tasks he's not yet ready to fully cooperate with (like the dreaded nail trim -- a work in progress.)

His adopter should be prepared to work with Sol Dog’s trainers to learn to properly handle Patch and continue the progress he’s made. This support is included in his adoption fee of $150, as well as a full starter pack of supplies -- a crate, bag of dog food, collar, leash, treats, toys, and 20% off of boarding & day care services for Patch, for life.
